thats actually not a bad idea.

i was hoping for something more in the forward part of the cabin as i want the mount it just under the rear view mirror and then run the wires through the top of the windshield trim and then down. kinda "hide" the wires.

Back of the radio. There is a wire that is only "hot" when the ignition is on. This is what I have my V1 hardwired to.
Use a voltmeter to find it, I can't remember what color it is off the top of my head.

Edit:
I did exactly what you wanted to do. I pulled off the passnger side windshield plastic trim stuff, ran the wire behind that, ran it under the dashboard tucked up where it isn't going anywhere, and then behind the radio. Its a very very simple install and all wires are hidden.
Shoot me a PM if you have any questions.

Right in the fuse box in the cabin by your foot. There are a few available fuse spots that are only on with power. Just check them with a volt meter on and off to make sure. Mine is wired in there.

^^ On that same fuse box there are 3 free male connectors. One is 12V continuous, another is 12V parking lights and the 3rd one is Acc 12V.

I believe the 3rd 12V is when the key is in the ON position not ACC.

I install my friend's escort tapping the 12v on.
