I'll be installing a new hu, 6.5 comps, 5.25 comps, and 4-ch amp next weekend. I bought Lucid's front 6.5 adapters, and the aftermarket hu harness. Both sets of speakers will be run off the amp, but I need some help on the wiring we'll need here.
Im guessing that I will have to run two sets of RCAs from the hu to the amp, right?
Speakers are all rated at 90rms/270max, amp is 100x4 rms at 4 ohms. What gauge speaker wire would you recommend to be safe?
Im also looking for suggestions on the RCA(s) I'll need, as well as the remote wire setup. The remote wire will be run to where behind the hu? I cant remember if its the p-antannae line, or some other blue wire ?
I see amp kits on-line, but they all seem like a rip-off. In the past Ive bought all the wiring at Radio Shack or some place similar for $xx per foot. Where do you all buy this stuff?
your new head should have a dedicated wire for remote-turn-on (most likely blue) that you can run directly to the amp.
cables tend to be another one of the polarizing topics on this board. i used 15/16 gauge speaker, i think running 12 would be a PITA and not worth it, but i'm sure someone will chime in with the opposite...i feel the same way about RCAs, i can't spend $30X2 for RCA cables. You can get nice twisted RCA cables for $10 for a lot of online dealers.
amp kits? cheap ones from knuconceptz.com, you can also get one at wal-mart (which is actually pretty nice for around $15).
if you want to buy wires, rca-cables, amp kit all at once, also look at partsexpress.com, you can pice together all the parts cheap there.
yes you will need 2 RCA cable from the deck to the amp.
14 gauge will work fine for speaker wire. you wont get any better sound by going to a larger gauge wire so there is no need to waste more money on it.
for the remote wire you will need to connect to a blue/white wire that is in back of the aftermarket head unit.
im sure there are people who will tell you that you need to spend top dollar to get good sounding RCA's. you really don't need to blow the extra money on them. save your money.
I have never heard of any noise problems in the s2000 so they just are not needed.
I considered monster cable RCA's for my system but I opted to go with cheaper Rockford cables instead. and no noise.
amp kits can save you money compared to buying everything separate. ebay has some excellent prices on Rockford amp kits. most of them are cheaper than cost. depending on the size of your amp you may need 4 gauge. I am running 8 gauge on my 4 channel Kenwood and so far so good
good luck
they say that the twisted RCA's have better noise canceling properties. but its up to you if you want to spend the extra $$$ on them. you can buy cheaper cables like my Rockford's that are still twisted.
the only difference between RCA's with right angle ends or straight ends are the ends. nothing else. and as for connecting the deck and amp together you will need two sets of RCA cables. that is 4 plugs total. front left, front right, rear left and rear right.
im trying to help my friend install his sub this weekend, but im not sure about where to wire the REM to. (is that the same as the remote turn on?)
Is there anything else i need to wire besides power, gound and RCA for the sub to work?
I used Monster Cable RCA's and only ran one set. Here is a picture of my RCA cables.
That way you don't have to snake two sets of wires. I ran them up the center console away from my power line which I ran up the passengers side of the car. I have no problem with noise. You can get them at crutchfield or any local stereo shop should have them.
