Default Wiring the passport 8500 question

Help the electronically challenged!

I have searched and found that you can hardwire with a regular(black) phone line....my question is which wires do you hook up(color)?....and what is the number on the fuse panel you would hook up to?

Also I have thought about installing on the far left near the windshield pillar on the dash. Would there be any "performance" problems installing it there?

Thanks for any help!

There would be a problem detecting signals coming from behind the car.

Here's the simple way. Go to Radio Shack and for a couple bucks get an extension cord that plugs into the cig lighter at one end and has an inlet for the remote at the other. Stick it under the console carpeting so it's out of the way.
