Is it worth hooking up Modifry's speed control?

I have been happy with the volume adjust.
I am used to the beep every time it changes, but it bothers passengers.
Is there any way to disable the beep?

I have a Pioneer DEH P80MP which beeps like that and I could find no way to turn it off. I eventually disabled the volume adjust even though I really liked it because the beep was too distracting
Alpines can be set to disable the beep, I think most Pioneer's can't (how annoying!).
Like mentioned, the newer DCI's allow you to adjust the SCV settings through the dash switches and also provide more adjustment range than the previous units (8 levels instead of 4). But I still suggest mounting the DCI where you can get to it (like behind one of the side covers on the radio console). That way you can reach the dip switches if you decide to change the mode of operation.
In addition to disabling the SCV via the MODE+CH button combination when fiddling with the HU, you can also activate MUTE to disable auto-volume changes. Note that this only works if you activate MUTE via the dash switches (so the DCI knows you did it). If you press the MUTE button on the HU it will NOT disable auto-volume. Also, note that all the dash switches are disabled when the HU is muted, to prevent the dash MUTE from getting out of sequence with the HU mute.
ruexp67 - What's the issue with MUTE getting goobered up? That doesn't sound right. What HU do you have? Which DCI version (revision number if possible) are you using?
The only mute/auto-volume issue I'm aware of is with Alpine head units where the silly HU will significantly decrement the volume setting if you send a volume command within a second or two of coming out of mute. This is a function of the HU, since it happens when using the factory remote without having a DCI installed.
If you're seeing another problem I'd be interested in trying to fix it. You can contact me at bob@modifry.com.

The mute disabling the other controls, is that a speed control only feature? I didn't hook up that wire, but mine still allows me to use the other features when the mute is enabled.
I have two things "goober up" my mute thing, the above issue and my headunit is still muted after turning the car off, but the dash controls default to mute off, not last state... but I don't imagine there's anything the DCI can do about that.
The only other thing I've wanted it to do was be able to move MP3 folders, but it seems like CH+VOL+/- should do that... unless that's a newer feature, I'll have to try that out

Also, if you're using the wired mute control (DCI blue wire) see if mute keeps working when the other buttons quit. If it does, then the DCI is still operating. If it doesn't, then the DCI has either lost power or may have a problem.
Now if you're not using the wired mute this test can still be used - if mute works when the other buttons quit it sounds like a bad connection on the DCI green wire.

The issue for me is that if I mute, then accelerate, the DCI tries to turn the volume up, which the HU interprets as wanting to exit the mute function. The Green light on the dash stays lit (for mute) and if I re-press it it goes off, but mutes the HU again.
It sounds like you resolved the issue by adding more logic to the newer DCIs (which makes the SCV even MORE worth hooking up.)
Honestly, I don't really care. The goofy Sony HU only brings the volume down by 10 when you hit mute, which is usally not low enough for a "muteable" event. So I just hold the volume down switch until it's silent. No biggie for me.
However, I do appreciate the offer to fix it, it's just not worth the hassle of removing the DCI from the car to replace or reflash.
Even MORE proof that Modifry is a stand up guy, and truely stands behind his products.
I finally figured out the intermitent working issue. It would only happen when I had just opened the radio door and had the top off in full sun conditions. I think the ir sender would catch a bright reflection and stop functioning for a short time. This is the only time I have had a problem with it and it always starts working after 20-30 seconds.
