Default XM antenna placement

Thinking about adding an XM receiver on my S. Not really too excited about installing the antenna on the trunk as is usual. Since some XM antennas are pretty small now, and since there's a bit of a ledge just to the rear of the flip up wind deflector between the seats, I got to wondering if anyone's mounted one there. It would end up positioned just to the rear of the top edge of the rear window, under the glass. I'm hopeful that being mounted inside under the rear window won't affect reception quality. Anyone done this? Opinions? Thanx.

I have mine in the secret compartment and it works fine except in heavy tree cover. I'm using the Delphi because I use it most of the time in the house or on the bench at work.

Sorry to bring back and old thread but I need some help installing my XM antenna. How you do run the antenna to the dash at the windshield? Does this require the removal of the dash or can it be done with out removing it? I currently have it located un the trunk lid but it gets really crappy reception so it needs to be moved to another spot and in the middle of the dash sounds to me like it would be the most logical inside out in the open place.

C/O, try waiting more than 2 hours for a reply.

Satellite radio antennas do best when placed in the middle of a flat metal panel, such as a hood, trunk, or roof. On the dash is a very poor idea IMO. But then, I'd think the secret compartment and under the trunk would be bad as well - however, a few have decent success with those placements.

Removal of the dash is pretty self-explanatory. Can you get the antenna where you want it, by keeping the dash secured? If not, then you'll have to pull it.
