Default XM radio install

My old Delphi skyfi radio is nice but doesn't fit anywhere in the S without looking retarded. I figure I will have to buy a new XM radio but I'm trying to get some ideas of install areas to determine what would be best.

I've seen units on the outside of the radio and on the inside of the radio door but I can't find too many radios that will fit on the inside. I would love to put it on the inside of the radio but at the same time don't want to spend $200-$300 for a unit.

Also if you have any recommendations for a head unit instead I'd be interested in that too.

I is compfuzed... you said you don't want to spend $200-$300, but are asking suggestions for a head unit... anyway, here is a decent new head unit with xm built in. Needs only an XM antenna.

I guess I should rephrase that. I don't want to spend $200-$300 on just an XM receiver. I like the idea of the xm receiver better because they usually display more characters than head units, but if the receiver isn't going to work then I'd go with a head unit.

We have XM in our daily driver (not S2000). When I was planning the stereo upgrade for the S2000 I was assuming I would want XM there too. You're right; there is no attractive install location for a XM display receiver assuming you're not doing any custom molding. So for me, it was either the Alpine XM head unit or no XM at all. I went sans-XM.

If you want to go the custom route, I have seen some nice looking installs where people custom molded items like VAFCs into the radio door, or sun visor. This would make the install permanent; I can't think of an easy way you could remove the unit from your car if you did this.

I've got an XM Roady2 installed with a new bracket from Modifry and the PIE interface for connecting it to the CD changer input on the OEM head unit. (Don't know if he has them available yet, but will soon.) It looks great and is in easy reach without spoiling the interior. All of the modifications are completely reversible without any damage to the interior.
