MY04+ Head Unit in MY2000
I picked up a used MY06 S2000 radio to replace my original MY00 radio. The install was very easy, the multi-pin plug was a perfect match. All radio functions work properly, even the remote controls to the left of the cluster.
But there is virtually no sound. When I crank it all the way up I can barely make out what is playing. However, when I entered the radio code I could easily hear the beep, and when the volume control "max's out at 40" I can hear a beep.
Can anyone confirm that this radio should function in my car?
Or is there an explanation for it not working?
This radio is XM compatible. Could that have anything to do with it?
My gut tells me the radio is just bad, but I'd appreciate valuable input.
Thanks.

Good question, but yes - the antenna was in. I also tried a CD and got the same barely audible music when set to max volume.
Am I correct that this radio should function fine in my MY00 car?

Thanks for posting your reply. Do you know which year radio you installed? The one I got is supposedly out of a MY06 (it has the XM compatibility button). And did you need to alter the wiring harness at all?
I was thinking that perhaps the newer radio might have the wires in a different order.
And, yes, it is certainly possible it is just a problem with the radio.

The only thing I could recommend would be to pull the HU back out and double check your connections. Not sure if there is a difference in HU's between model years.

I wanted to follow-up just in case someone else wants to do this swap/upgrade. I picked up another '05-'08 stock S2000 radio and it worked fine. It was completely a straight plug and play.
Obviously the original swapped radio was the problem...
