Default xm radio not working

purchased a 2005. Love the car! I will replace the original radio and speakers. The car has the honda xm radio in the trunk along with the antenna on the trunk lid. No sign that it is working. I hit the aux button and nothing happens not even channel 0. I guess I could just put a serious/xm unit behind the head unit but I was hoping to save any room there for a mini amp. Something tells me not much room back there. I don't need a CD player these days. That should save some space with a smaller head unit. Any thoughts on where to start with getting the xm unit working? Great car! Can't wait for the snow to melt in the northeast.

Think this may have been a new car option feature, at time of purchase. If the original owner didn't activate the Xm/Sirius subscription, at the time... can't be activated now.

So if I have a 2006 with XM Ready factory radio and can't get the radio number, am I out of luck with SiriusXM? I gave them the VIN# but they say they can't access the radio #.

you can try this to get the radio serial number.
Make sure you have the anti-theft code, as you need to cut power to the headunit and will
need to enter the code to get your radio working again, though since the point of that site
is to retrieve the anti-theft code, I guess ultimately you'll get back up and running...

All may not be lost. Previous owner kept all the original manuals for the car and upon closer investigation over the weekend I found the radio code written inside the service records manual. We'll see if that gets me anywhere. Thanks everyone for the input.

Sadly, not so simple. Sirius is telling me the VIN for my car does not match for a factory equipped XM-ready stereo. Yet, my radio clearly says that it is. I gave them the radio code I found written inside the "service manual" that I assumed was for my car. It too did not match. Then I noticed all the information written down in the manual was for a completely different S2K - different color, different VIN. I suspect the manual packet either got switched when the car was purchased, or otherwise replaced by one of the previous owners.

Sirius asked if it could be possible the radio was swapped out. My thinking is if it had been they would likely have not gone with swapping a factory unit for another one.

Back to square one.

These radios sell on Ebay occasionally. This may be one.

Well, I'm pretty much feeling like an idiot about this XM thing. According to my local dealer, the stereos came "ready" but to make them equipped you still needed to have an optional antenna and accessory kit to complete the system. Honda can set me up, for something in the neighborhood of $700. I think not. Thanks for all the suggestions an input.
