XM radio question
I know the RF adapters for Sirius and/or XM will take a digital signal and and send it to the amp/head unit as a analog signal. Does anyone know if using the CD changer input, in a factory radio, will keep the signal digital?
I've seen a few patch cords advertised that connect the satellite unit to the aux CD changer input. Does this keep the signal digital? What if I have to use RCA to miniplug adapter?
(If it matters, I'm trying to install XM or Sirius into my wife's new 2004 Volvo S60 that has the Dolby Pro digital radio)
thanks!

After doing some more homework, it looks like my car uses a MOST Bus which is fiber optic. Now the problem is finding an after market product that can use the technology.
" A MOST network, usually laid out as a ring, may include up to 64 MOST devices. Due to its plug&play functionality it is not very difficult to either add or remove a MOST device. Given suitable topological conditions stars may also be laid out - and double rings may be used for safety critical applications."
We'll se how long it is until plug and play goes from the lab to the store front!

Although my XM is alpine into an alpine HU (uses a special an AiNet cable) I *think* that the XM reciever DECODES the signal and then sends it to the HU.....the only thing that you wont get is the naming of stations and such. (unless you have the remote display)
Again, this is all I *think*

Unless a unit is hacked, the digital radio systems will NOT give you access to a digital signal...if they did, people would be able to easily copy a digital song, and the RIAA would have a REAL field day with THAT one!

PS, as it turns out the Volvo has a MOST bus, and I'm sure it's going to be a while before add-ons hit the street.
No, the question was clear enough. They don't want to make the digital stream available anywhere that can be easily tapped, and that even includes inside the XM/Sirius receiver/decoder. That being the case, my original statement stands...you're only going to find an analog output on the receiver/decoder.
