Is XM worth it?

xviper, I HATE radio and NEVER listen to it. However, I will definitely be getting XM radio when available here. From what I understand, it is nearly identical to Digital Music Express, which you have if you have a Shaw digital box in your house. With DME and XM, there are no DJ's and no commercials. It's ALL music ALL the time.
Most definitely is expensive if you don't have any of the gear yet though.

there's about 25 commercial free stations but all the stations have djs and for some strange reason there are quit a few plug for XM (i already have it why do they have to tell me how great it is??)
it's not 100% like the digital cable or dtv but pretty darn close..
i really enjoy the varity too

Crazy that I would even suggest leaving this forum to check out another one but here's a link to clubxm. It's a pretty good site if you're toying with the idea of going with satellite radio and have specific questions about, like is Alpine's better than Pioneer's or Sony's system or getting feedback from XM and Sirius subscribers.
Xviper, If you can find a XM channel that plays the genre of music you like it's much better than a disc changer because you get a wider variety. Obviously if you can't find a specific channel that you like, it's probably not worth the cost. I have found three stations in particular that I really like and I wouldn't trade my XM radio for a disc changer because it would limit the diversity of the music I could listen to on a particular day, and I don't have to remember to bring new discs. Every station I listen to has a DJ. However they don't ramble forever. I would guess they don't talk more than 3-5 minutes every hour. I have also been told that some stations have commercials, but I've had my radio for almost a year and have yet to hear a commercial on any channel.
As far as where to put the antenna, there doesn't seem to be a great answer. For best reception, mounted on the trunk lid-topside would be best. Any metal above or on the sides the antenna is going to have a negative effect on reception. Currently I have a BMW 325i with the antenna on the trunk. Doesn't look terrible and it's definitely better than Terk's recommended location - which is the roof, but I can't say that the antenna is attractive. I saw DaveZ's antenna installation and if it works that's good, but the antenna would definitely work better on top. DaveZ can probably shed some light on his success with this location. I am a bit skeptical that it will work well the way he has it mounted. Once I ordered my S2000, I contacted Terk about locating the antenna on the S2000. I asked about using the glass mount antenna on the wind deflector, but the antenna only works on glass. I also asked about mounting the antenna above the storage compartment in front of the wind deflector. Terk tech support said this would be fine if I created a ground plane underneath the plastic to which the antenna was mounted. The ground plane can be created by "gluing" aluminum foil or by using dynamat extreme (the stuff with the foil on it) to the underside of the plastic. Of course I could just mount to the trunk lid and eliminate all these problems. I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet, but I figured I share my research with everyone else.
