Default aem 30-1052

i have buy an aem 30-1052, can i run it with usb plug?i dont have de 9 pin plug on my portable tanks, scuse for my bad english

You would have to get a serial to usb converter/adapter to use it on your laptop. If you get the series 2 for an AP1 (30-6052) it has usb built into it.

the guy that sold it to me said that he never be able to used it with this converter, does anyone off you used them?

Yep, we connect to the Series 1 boxes via a converter all the time.

You need to get a higher end converter. My initial attempt was with an ebay unit and it failed miserably.

If you do buy a descent converter and install it correctly and it still doesn't work then you need to play around with the transfer rate. In some cases these units use rates that are too high for the EMS. To change the transfer rate look in your control panel-> system-> hardware manager->COM#->properties

If you visit the AEM forum they have a user provided list of converters that work.
