Default AEM EMS V1 Timing Sync Issue

If this needs to be moved to another forum please do so mod.

Alright I finally finished my build and am at the tuning point. I am doing a Etune from Evans Tuning to get everything up and running till I can get on the dyno. Here is the issue. I loaded my basemap from Jeff and the car would not fire. I went to check all connections, ect ect ect everything was fine. I then wanted to see where my timing sync was. I looked at the calibration , sendt it to jeff and it was where almost every s2000 he has tuned was. So that led me to throw a timing light on. Low and behold it was off, and I had to move it till I could get the car to start. Knowing that my sync should never be "THAT" far off I sent the map back to Jeff. He quickly responded and this is what he said " You have something way out of wack on your car for the sync position to be 13 teeth difference from the map that I had sent to you. There is only 24 teeth on the crank pick up wheel, I rarely touch the sync position from the AEM default since its a fixed sensor placement. The only times I see fluctuation are what the head/block are machined and the height changes. That may account for a tooth difference. I have never seen an s2000 using that sync position value, and i have probably tuned 200-300 to date on AEM series 1/2 boxes. Are you sure you have the cam pick up wheels on the cams correctly (that you didnt swap intake to exhaust)? The crank trigger wheel can only go on one way, unless the trigger wheel slipped on the keyway. If the sync position is that far off, I would not be surprised that the car does not run well. The ignition timing is probably retarded, and the injector phasing is thrown off as well. "

Mechanical timing is in, as if it were that far off I would have had interference already. Anything thoughts, Cam Trigger, Crank trigger

Thanks,Rob

Did you rebuild the engine and possibly reinstall one of the trigger wheels backwards?

I like your turbo manifold. Is that a divided bottom mount manifold?

Hey timg, rob here . My short block was done at ERL and then the head and assembly at Stewart engines . I am waiting to get the tool so i can pull the timing cover . When looks at the cam trigger part number I believe they are both the same . Is there dedicated intake and exhaust trigger ? Also the crank trigger looks to go on one way and has even teeth spacing . If I were to flip it , it would be the same. I think 00-05 it was not one sided and didnt matter which way it went on.

I wonder if you flipped this around if it would make a difference. I cant tell if the fingers are slightly one direction

The manifold is a lovefab GT2 ... Standard t3 flange ... Amazing quality and I like the design. Been sitting on it for quite awhile. I cant remember if that was the last one cody made or not

Timg, when looking under timing sync on your current map. Where does it show your tooth position at ? somewhere in the 9.xx ??

They both look the same and I believe have the same part number. The question as you mentioned , does it matter if they are flipped around?
