Default AEM v1 vs v2 vs Kpro

I know ill catch some "do research" flak but any input would help. I am researching, but im a bit too new to management to really process it all.

So heres my deal, my S is FAR from stock (see sig for mods) I need a new ECU, its an 01 so flashpro is out, which seems to leave me with either an AEM v1 or v2, or Kpro. So far what im gathering is Kpro is really only better if you need to worry about smog inspections, I live in San Antonio and they dont do that.

Price wise it looks like v1 < v2 < Kpro. What i need is the pros and cons of runnin any of these. Functionality, additional parts/sensors that i would need, reliability, stuff like that.

Any input is appreciated, and with that, im off to drudge through piles of posts to see what i can learn

Who's tuning it? Ask them.

Well thats the prob, there are many people that I have access to that could do my tuning, but they all seem to lean towards one or the other. So I figured I would word out what hardware suited me better and then pick a tuner.

Ease of use is prolly the biggest, i have no experience with standalones and I want somthing that i can tune myself relatively easy. I think im gonna go with kpro, money isnt as big of an issue and i dont think my S will every be a straight up track car so i think the friendlyness of kpro is more appealing. Also, JustinC lives across town and said he would lend me a hand if I needed it.

seeing you have a 2001. I would go with the AEM V2. Dont have to mess with the dash coolant fix and the starting issues the EMS V1 had. I got the EMS V2 and never had a starting issue. Fires up every time like stock. If you go with k-pro you'll have to get some new sensors/parts 06+ valve cover etc. If you ever wanted to go back to stock then you'll have to change that all back out. I'm still learning the AEM software but it doesn't look to intimidating. Plus K-pro is a lot more expensive.

Either way you go, you wont be disappointed. The main reason why i chose the aem is because of money. I dont think k-pro is worth the extra 700 because of the price diff and extra parts you have to buy. good luck

In my boosted '01 I have the AEM 1052.

I use a separate water temp gauge. Although next time around I would prolly use modifries yellow box thing-a-ma-jig. It takes 5 seconds to change the coolant temp and iat temp tables in AEMpro.

I love the computer. But by the looks of your sig... you already have Kpro on its way. nvm.

So the Series 2 still doesn't support the OBD2 access port right? just to be clear. Been looking it up on the internet and reading for minutes!
