Default any cons w/hondata flashpro?

i currently bought an 08 s2k, and after some research its easy to see that for the 06+ s2k's the hondata flashpro is easily the best bang for your buck, i have heard nothing but good things about it!

i plan on installing a comptech intake and a high flow cat/test pipe on my car, dont really plan on doing exhaust or header cause i dont want my car to sound like a rice burner, and to maximize these mods i would like to get a flashpro and etune by evans

so my questions is, is there any drawbacks to the flashpro.....as far as the lowering vtech engagement and raising the redline to 8500k

will this hurt the engine in the long run?

make it less reliable?

shorten the life of the engine?

I don't think there are any cons but you probably want to get some dyno time which isn't cheap.

Unfortunately, I believe an exhaust is necessary in order to get a low vtec. I just put my stock exhaust back on (have hfc and header) and retuned...I lost a Lot of mid end.

raising the redline maybe not healthy for the engine.

why not to start with normal tune wich gets "the usual" improvements?

IIRC, stock ecu cuts fuel @ 8400, so another 100rpm might not be TOO bad... but, i don't see the point to raise reline unless you upgrade your cams.

the only drawback i could think of with lowering vtec is probably using more gas.

and, what's your definite of a car sounding like a "rice burner"? the raspy sound with exhausts?

^ was going to ask that as well. Some exhausts are pretty quiet until wide open throttle.

if that's the case, then you're better off keeping the stock cat, as that's where the rasp comes from most of the time... even with stock exhaust it'll still rasp a bit with a test pipe.

ahh i had a feeling, what about the high flow cats out on the market? i know Berk makes one, do those produce as much rasp?

the stock cat is a high flow cat suppposedly. btw, with the stock exhaust, i didnt even notice extra sound coming from the HFC vs stock cat. the intake made a FAR bigger difference in sound.

this is the inside of my berk HFC before i used it

vtec isnt based soley upon rpm threshold. you can setup the 'triggers' to include MAP load, and/or throttle position for engage and disengage. just because it is set at 4k doesnt mean itll kick in during normal driving.

if it's all tuned the difference when vtec kicks you can barley feel it. i dont even notice the sound unless im WOT.

You might want to look up some of Gernby's threads, as he is the Flashpro guru.
