Default Ap1 platinum pro plug-in flex fuel issue

I'm having an issue where my flex fuel sensor won't display any signal from the I/O box's dp1 harness in ecu manager. It's the haltech 50-150hz sensor, I've loaded the calibration file and connected the three wires going into the sensor, but after enabling the channel and setting up the number displays for both input hz and ethanol content they both read 0. I know the harness and box are working properly as my boost control solenoid works as it should; is it safe to say I have gotten a bad sensor from haltech? Also is there anyway I can test the sensor to verify it's bad before I spend money on another sensor?
