Consistency of the amount of octane from diff countries
Hey guys I'm moving to Jordan for work for a while. My 01 s2k will be making the journey with me. The car is turboed and tuned on e85 and 97 oct. I want to get her retuned before I move, for the 95 oct that is offered there. E85 is not available and 95 oct is the highest octane pump.
My question is what oct fuel should I tune it here? Should I just tune on the closest I can find to 95 oct or should I tune on say 93 or 91 oct to b on the safe side?
If you have any other suggestion on how to go about this, feel free to make suggestion. No methonal

What country are you in now? The way octane is calculated differs from one country to the next. So first find out what method each uses, so you can make apples-apples comparison.
There are 2 methods. RON & MON. Reasearch Octan Number and Motor Octane Number. RON is calculated, MON is measured using a running motor.
One will give higher reading than the other. In the USA, we average the 2 readings. Thats the number that gets put on the pumps. Most other countries use just the RON.
So 100 octane in say, Japan, would be close to USA rating of 95. 98 RON is more like 93 USA.
I'm guessing that their 95 would be about USA 90 (RON x .95 gives you USA equivalent).
So tune with a mix of half tank 89, half 91. That should get you ~90.

Thanks for the info
I'm in the US now... So how much would it effect the tune if I just tuned on 91 oct given that your calculation is right of a mix between the 89 and 91 oct to get a 95 oct in Jordan.
Seems like it's close enough not to effect the tune...the last thing I want is to be 6k miles away from my tuner and the car starts cutting out because of oct levels

The states are probably much better than most areas in Canada. We've had numerous boosted vehicles blow up here due to bad fuel. All safely tuned for 91 but when blown up we took fuel, spent big bucks to have it tested and readings came back as 89. Most places don't sell enough 91 here to keep it in the tanks.
