Default Engine Problems

Hey everyone!! This is really scaring me and I haven't been able to find anything like this on the internet anywhere. When I'm accelerating as much as my s2k can, either in first or second gear, every once in awhile it skips a beat (for lack of knowledge on this topic), stops working for a second but does NOT turn off, I let my foot off the gas, then lightly gas it again and it's still on, keeps going no problem. It scares the living shit out of me every time this happens!!

About a month ago I had a misfire in one of my cylinders, I got that fixed as well as some maintenance. All mechanical problems SHOULD have been fixed. I thought this was the misfire before I got it fixed, but now it is still happening and I don't know what to do.
(Also, my CEL turned back on the other day.. I thought it might have been just my gas cap wasn't screwed on enough, so I unscrewed it and screwed it back in plenty. I don't have a OBD II port scanner so I can't reset the CEL and I didn't want to disconnect the battery and do all that; however, the engine "skipped a beat" yesterday and the CEL immediately turned off. I'm so confused.)

Here is the list of work I had done if it matters:
Serpentine Belt
Oil change - new filter + crush washer
Transmission fluid change (previous owner put in wrong fluid, mechanic said the transmission was flooded with gear oil)
Valve Adjustment
Valve cover gasket
Tube seals
Change spark plugs (previous owner also put in wrong spark plugs)

So that is my #1 priority right now. My next problem is... Whenever I let off the gas completely and allow the gears to slow me down, it sounds HORRIBLE, like metal is being grinded or cut or something like that. Is anyone else having this problem? Is there someone with an s2k that would be willing to give me a ride in theirs for like a minute to see if it's the same? I'll show you what the sound is that I'm experiencing. I would GREATLY appreciate it. I live on 91st and Deer Valley.

Any help at all would be insanely appreciate, thank you guys!!!

I'm not sure this is the issue with everything else you have going on, but the car must be properly warmed up before VTEC will engage. If you are trying to go WOT in first gear just after starting the car then it will cut power at around 6k rpm. Best of luck, hope it's nothing serious.

The grinding noise could possibly be clutch buzz depending on where the sound is coming from. You can stop by my shop and Ill hook it up to a scanner to see what codes are stored.

It could be because it doesn't warm up enough or properly. Is there a special way to warm it up or do you just have to allow it to run with ease for a few minutes?

As for the grinding, I would really appreciate that! Where's your shop?

It's happening because you're not letting the car warm up. Do not engage Vtec until the temperature gauge has three bars. (AP1)

If you show up to one of the meets sometime you can have one of the "old guys" check out your car and let you know if it's a normal sound on deceleration.

Is that the only possible reason it would do that? Because I check to make sure it's at 3 bars before I even take the E-Brake off... I don't remember to check every single time though..

That "old guy" stuff is starting to get on my nerves. I would appreciate if you guys could help me diagnose it though. I'm going to try to meet up with another owner close by soon, as well. Thanks.

I highly suggest you take Ben up on his offer and stop by his shop - Enjoy Racing. He knows his stuff and can help you out.

I asked the previous owner if he noticed this grinding noise, he said he did and researched it and found out that it's a pipe coming out the side of the exhaust and it's completely normal. I still would like to proceed and have some experienced people check it out. It sounds too abnormal to 'let it go.'

He is referring to the Helmholtz resonator which under normal conditions you would not even know it is there. Unless there is an exhuast leak there (not likely), then I don't think this is your problem.
