F22 with ap1 ECU
Hey guys,
I am soon putting in an f22 in my MY03. It is my understanding that the 02-03 ECU runs more lean and most people recommend getting an ECU from an 00-01. What are my other options in doing this? Should I get some sort of standalone or piggyback? Or should I just get an 00-01 ECU? Then I would have to get it reprogrammed for the immobilizer and that is not cheap either. I'm a bit confused. Can you please help?

You can use your 03 ecu but check the air fuel ratio throughout the full range. You can use a wideband, air fuel regulator and/or vafc if needed. It all depends on whether or not your ecu runs lean. I have an 03 ecu with my F22c and I was extremely rich at higher rpms, the only intervention I have is a tuned vafc2 and wideband to watch.

The best thing is to get an ECU from an '04-'05 or a full stand-alone ECU. I wouldn't want to run an F22 on anything else.
Every dealer will charge something different. I would try to find an '04-'05 ECU with matching keys and key switch from a wrecked car.

I’ve run an 00-01 ecu with an f22 NA and SC for years, the afr is safe/good. Good enough that i'd strongly consider running an 02-03 as well if thats all you had. If for some reason you find your running a little leaner then you would like in WOT/open loop with an 02-03, then pick up an adjustable fpr and dial in a little fuel pressure, they dont cost much. I would prefer this method over fuqing with immobilizers or full engine management etc. Its just a lot of added cost and frustration that isnt needed for such a modification.
00-01 ecu would be your best option though since they do run richer, and the f22 does consume more fuel. I'd probably get an fpr anyway just to help dial in your tune a bit, this is assuming you have some bolt ons that are leaning things out a bit as is.
Having the extended rev limit of the ap1 ecu is nice as well, the f22 does like to rev, especially coupled with a light weight flywheel, you will make power past its factory 8200rpm cap.
