Rules of Thumb I use: If you cannot hear it or feel hesitation in the rpms at those intervals, then it's ghost knock.

Damn, I keep forgetting about the plugs. I'm going to try the NGK BKR8E-11's and then switch over to the iridiums if they prove beneficial. Did you want me to get you a set as well?

When you are talking about hearing knock, you mean when it's on a dyno inside the shop, right? I don't think I would ever rely on my ability to hear knock on the street.

Looking at the datalog from Dave's car when it got 21 knock counts in a few minutes, the IGN value was -2 to -4 degrees at 1200 RPMs and 550 mBar (idling). I believe there was 2 degrees of retard on cylinder 2 also, so that's a total ignition advance of -4 to -6 while idling.
