Hey guys! New to posting, however, I've lurked this forum for YEARS. I recently was able to purchase an F20C that the previous owner thought had overheated and therefore ended up selling it. I got this engine for an absolute steal of a deal and after ripping it apart last night, wanted some feedback on the amount of wear I'm seeing. It's rumored to have about 100K miles on it and the valves are completely torched with build up, but the cylinder walls seem to have minimal wear and no real "notches" or "scratches" that can be felt with a nail. Seeing as though this is my first F20C, would love some feedback on how you read the wear here and whether it's worth keeping prior to swapping it into my project car.
Next steps: rip apart the pistons, rod, crank, etc.
Based on the look of the valves with all that crust, it looks to have been quite an oil burner. A lot of that could be cleaned off. The bigger issue I see is all the vertical scoring marks in the cylinders, and one with some rather large horizontal wear marks. Typical F20 burn oil through the piston rings and valve guides and seals. Id have someone you trust take a closer look at those cylinder bores and measure roundness before investing anything more in this motor, unless you just plan on sleeving it.
