Thumbs up Recent start up issues, with Haltech 1000

Hello s2ki I need some advice, here's the breakdown: I have an 05 ap2, with I/H/E and tuned with Haltech 1000 by jeff evans.

Recently in the past week or two I've noticed some problems with starting g up the motor. From what I observed it seems like there is crank, but it hesitates to turn over, to the point where I have to depress the gas pedal a couple of times to have it start up.

My first thought is my battery(mini odyssey) might be causin this. Although the battery isn't even a year old but given it's small size is it possible it's not giving enough crank to the motor and that's why it's hesitating? Just seems a bit unlikely since every third time or so she starts up pretty strong.

Or is I possible that due to it getting warmer the Haltech unit is havin issues starting up?

Or is this something else completely?

Any advice would be great, I don't want this to turn into a bigger problem if I ignore it. I did hear some rattling noise after last start up but that could just be now I'm looking for something to go wrong...

I have the same behaviour with my Hondata K-Pro.
When putting the pedal to WOT the engine cranks without problems. WIthout touching the pedal, the engine slows cranking every revolution.

My guess is that the starter isn't strong enough to work against the vacuum in the manifold with closed throttle. Maybe Honda has a routine in it's OEM ECU to open up the IAC Valve a bit to avoid a vacuum to help the starter crank the engine. I think (it's only a guess) that other Maps don't have this routine.

Well, today started her 3 different times on the way to work(home, gas station and coffee) and she started like a champ. I didn't do anything different, only thing is it may be a bit cooler outside today, but not marginally. It is possible I'm running a bit richer too, by a fraction could be just the changes in weather. We'll see, this is the only issue this untie has given me in 7 months so I'd say it's been great going with Haltech.

Bpaspi, that's an interesting theory, wonder if anyone can back that up. It seems like the car needs a little help with the throttle, once in a while. Could just be an EMS thing. Anyone who knows please chime in.

Just to rule it out go have the battery tested. I just installed K-pro over the winter and got a etune by Jeff Evans and my car starts fine every time. Even with the original battery. (03' AP1)

i also have the same issue but I thought it was because of my injectors (ID 1000). I also was tuned by evans. The only thing is I don't press the gas pedal to get it to start, it just takes a while. I will email evans about this and see what he says.

Basemap isnt better than a good tune. Its so you can start your car, not start it perfectly.

So I have a little update, so far it seems that if I wait for the tach to cycle through after turned the key, aprox 10 seconds before I press the start button she starts up right after a few cranks and does not need help from the gas pedal. Has worked the past couple of days. I'll keep an eye on it and get my batt. Tested this week.
