Exclamation S2000 Stock ECU

Hi, I'm new to this Forum, bear with me

Is it possible to have the stock ecu on a 03' S2000 take out and sent to a ecu tuner to be tuned with different stages and maybe a stock stage with the original settings or close to it to pass emissions and set with different stages for other practical needs and tuned to the Performance i want? A friend recommended me to do this because he has some knowledge from doing this on his Subaru,Supra and so on but I do not believe it's that easy to just take it out of the car and ship to the someone to have it tuned while telling them what performance parts you put into the vehicle would be that simple. I don't see anyone else on the forums doing this and how come they would choose let's say a AEM, Haltech, and so on. While looking through the forums i see aftermarket ECU's and they do not support Immobiliser, and so on. I'm looking for functionality and performance. I was looking at the new post by reverent and his MS3 based ECU for S2000's but hear its just too complicated and not enough tuners that understand how to tune those types of ECU's. Friend's telling me I'm thinking too hard and should just do it like he says. Can someone give me some advice, and whether ^ is true and if this is wrong information, how should i go about this?

The stock ECU from an 03 S2K is not reprogrammable. If you wish to use a Hondata system which is fully tunable details can be found at: https://www.hondata.com/kpro/kpro-s2000

Sorry for the late reply. It states that no immobilizer function for this, that's a problem in my book. I would like immobilizer enabled. Any other options that allows tuning + immobilizer function and etc? No downsides...

There is no option to reprogram the stock ECU prior to '06 models. Prior to DBW models, the ROM is not flashable. If you want to keep the stock ECU in place, you'll have use a piggyback controller. Greddy ECU is probably the best and most cost efficient option.

Greddy Emanage Ultimate or maybe an Apexi VAFC.
Here is a complete Greddy kit with base tune included http://www.karcepts.com/shop/product.php?id_product=102

Thank you You've been quite helpful ^_^. I wonder why don't most people just go with a piggyback? Don't see that too often being recommended.

Yes, so i took a look at the wiring harness for the Greddy E-manage Ultimate and it says engine internals must stay OEM. I would like to go out of oem and put in higher CC injectors, rated higher Fuel pump and so on and tune it to around 400-450HP at the crank, rebuild motor in future but interested in looking for an ECU of what i desire. Also thinking about turbocharging. Any other suggestions would help. If there is truly no other way around this dilemma then I will pick among the standalone ECU's that do not support immobilizer feature. I am still looking at the MS-3 based Standalone ECU reverent is promoting, Haltech, AEM and so on. What would be the best choice in features, tuneability, ease of use, and be emission somewhat friendly if tuned right with lets say a economy stage and other stages for tracking & IMO most important is it a better ecu than others, price point don't matter unless its a small factor.

Because it's intercepting signals and there are fewer people versed in the Greddy EMU. As far as I understand it, Greddy's technical support for the thing isn't there. I know plenty of people running it successfully, but most go with KPro or AEM. STR rules limit me to a piggyback, so I'll be getting an EMU myself in the next couple of months.

I'd think (but don't know!) the Honda Kpro unit would be considered a piggy back ECU. Fits inside the ECU box though.

Anyone considering buying a S2000 with the intention (or possibility) of forced induction should do some cost analysis and consider the DBW cars vs the cost of modifying the ECU.

The KPro is not a piggy-back, it is a replacement. It also uses a different housing than the stock ECU and because the Kpro ECU is looking for different signals from some sensors, requires you to replace those sensors with ones from a K series engine which also violates STR rules.
