kevos2k was on the money. I decided to relocate my TV2 module to allow me to plug in the laptop without removing the kick panel and check for a better place to ground it at the same time.

Long story short, as usual I worked from the most complicated, unlikely solutions through to the simplest one. Frankly, my ground connection was horseshit. Just tracing the wire carefully to pull it out from the bundle pulled it right out of the crimp. Doh. Problem solved.

Where did you relocate your TV2 to? And how are you going to plug in the laptop without removing kick panel?

The display is still in the same spot but I moved the hondata module to a spot nearer the center of the footwell. It's mounted on the plastic bar that's on the underside of the steering column. It fits nicely on the left side of that bar. Double sided tape on the bottom of the module and a wrap of electrical tape at each side for good measure holds it there pretty snug.

I just picked up a real short USB B>A cable and ran it from the kpro to that spot. So when I want to plug the laptop in I can just reach under disconnect it from the module and use a regular USB A-female to A-male extension.

Edit: TV2 module mounted in new position. Blurry phone picture but you get the idea.

Hood release catch bolt seems like a good enough ground. It's direct into the chassis and, touch wood, no issues since I fixed my terrible crimping.

I can't see the pic right now but my TV2 is grounded to the chassis right next to the radio. The ECU & TV2 need to be on the same ground plane. Just grounding to metal is not enough, be sure its somewhere on the chassis.
