Default What would a 2006 ap2 engine sell for scratched walls

Good afternoon,

I am on the fence about what to do. I have what I believe is a useable 2006 ap2 engine that can be rebuilt. It has a cracked compression ring in cylinder 4 that has scracthed the cylinder wall #4. To my knowledge, everything is still true and flat and nothing has overheated. What is it worth if I wanted to dump it and use the funds to buy a used engine?

I can currently have it rebuilt by laskey racing for about $3600-$3800 but with a 3 month wait on the machine shop.

If walls are scratched, your only real rebuild option is to have iron sleeve s fitted. That is only suitable for high hp fi builds that see few miles. Not suitable for street or track road course.

It may, MAY be possible to bore it, but that has had very limited success on these motors and is fraught with pitfalls.

So the laskey racing build wouldn't really get me 30k street miles with an occasional track day? Any way to get my car back to normal? Should I buy a bare short block? I'm just really confused on what to do and the other option is to by a high mileage ap2 motor but those are around 6 or 7k right now

They haven't looked at it yet. I haven't finished pulling the motor yet. Their build is high hp 700hp build or greater but all I really want is something I can daily "even though" I will actually probably only drive it about 6k miles a year at most if even that.

If this motor is not usable, I would highly consider a Kswap before I spent 6-7k on a used motor. You can get the full kswap package (With a used K24) for less than 8k from ASM. Will still need a few parts here and there, but then you have a setup that still revs pretty high, is reliable and has a better tq curve than the F20C or F22. Not to mention used motors then can be had for a fraction of the price.

I might do a swap but then it will be a dedicated track car for me since I am still living in California.

What is your reasoning for saying that an iron sleeved F series cannot handle track / daily duty longevity wise? I agree with you sleeving and forged internals are definitely for high horsepower builds but when done correctly they can also be run for a decent amount of time (there is a built laskey F22C that is turbocharged in my buddie's AP2 that has been running for a LONG time now and it's not driven nicely). I know there is a company is New Zealand (Pepper performance) that rehabilitates the FRM liner and uses an oversized OEM piston + matching ring set with good success.
