Would you use a drop in ECU from DIYAutotune?
IMO, the biggest advantage of MSPnP (with regards to our application) is its potential affordability.
there arent very many tuners that know the software for these things.
any ecu is junk if you dont know the software. This would not be a good option for your average s2k owner for that simple reason. Unless the owner is going to sit down and learn everything and tune it themself a used aem ems is a far better deal

Great feedback from all.... so basically, some of you would love to have a more affordable solution that's just as powerful as anything else you'd pay even twice the price for, and others of you would prefer to pay more for the same level of performance. I get that. Maybe. Well... no, not really.
I have no interest in claiming MS based ECUs are better than others out there as typically, if hardware capability and firmware quality are equal, if they give you all the tunability you need and execute that accurately with properly timed fuel and ignition events, etc; And if they're in the hands of equally qualified tuners, then they should all pretty much perform the same. There are a lot of 'IFs' there. Bottom line, I'd put our system up against ANYONE's to make at least equal power with at least equal driveability. AT LEAST. Key difference in how we do things-- we don't maintain a massive marketing budget and maintain minimal overhead so that we can offer you this same level of performance at a much more affordable pricepoint. You won't see us running big ads in 3 dozen conglomerate-owned magazines because they charge ridiculous amounts of money for those ads. You'll see us in a few smaller mags where they don't have their heads in the clouds and we can afford to be there and still take good care of you, our customer. You'll also find our stuff in mags like Car Craft & and Hot Rod this month, and another article in Hot Rod next month. We don't pay them any money so they understandably can't talk up MS over their paying advertisers that frequently... but they like our stuff and when they get a good chance, they work it in. That Red Camaro featured in the upcoming Hot Rod is a beast. And a class winner at Hot Rod Drag Week 2011, and runs MS3.
Here's an interesting read from a top level tuner in the industry that's tuned more 4-digit HP cars than most people even knew existed: (and has done so on many different ECU variants, MS included) -- http://www.bangshift.com/forum/showt...se-being-equal
You'll find there are a growing number of shops carrying, supporting, and tuning our MSPNP ECUs. You'll also find those have taken the few minutes to get acclimated with it straight up love the software for it's logical layout, ease of use, and powerful toolset it provides. I've heard from tuner after tuner that TunerStudio is some of the best tuning software in the business for ECUs at any price.
If you haven't checked out MegaSquirt EFI in a while... it's not what it might have been the last time you did. We still offer the hardcore DIY kits at VERY affordable prices, but even the newer models of those, particularly the MS3+MS3X stuff, is light years ahead of some of the earlier hobby-kit stuff (that even then performed very well and still holds records). The MSPNP productline is not the DIY MS stuff you might have seen before. It's assembled and polished, rock solid, easy to install (under an hour, usually much less), includes a solid base map for all key applications, fires right up and is ready for fine tuning, and will properly manage any level of horsepower your motor can handle with ease and with excellent driveability. The base maps are great, taking care of most of the settings and requiring no further tuning of the base settings, just fine tuning of the VE and Ignition tables to match your modifications, and maybe fine tuning of tip-in/acceleration enrichment to match your injectors characteristics. In fact there are a growing number of tuners that prefer MS over most any other system they've worked with. In fact, that reminds me I need to go chat with a local performance/tuning shop as their contract tuner approached me at Road Atlanta recently and asked me to come up and get the shop setup to start carrying our stuff as he loves how easily it installs and enjoys tuning it...

How am i ignorant? Ive used AEM and i dont think theyre very good, but they are pretty affordable. Just the generic 'go-to' ECU for s2k guys as has been mentioned many times.
This is very true. And the biggest factor i think as well as pricing. Some good tuners dont bother to learn new software or other ECUs because they have enough business from AEM/Haltech/motec vehicles so theres no need to bother. But theres also good tuners out theyre who take the time to learn new units. Its just up to you at the end of the day. I enjoy doing anymost everything to my car myself, including a street tune. Final power tune i leave to a pro on the dyno. A lot of the time you can improve a lot of the tune after you get a pro to dyno tune the car. You spend the most time in the car, you can tune more of the map more effectively in the correct environment (on the road/track).

Judging by previous experience in the miata world, and several friends with extremely high performance SR20's currently using MSPNP, I would gladly purchase a MSPNP Standalone. I have honestly never heard or read any negatives about MSPNP. I voted yes as I'm currently in the market for a standalone and have no interest in spending almost 2k if not more for the Hondata unit, and have read several simple issues with the AEM. Hopefully we will hear some good news!
