2004 Supercharged S2000 No VTEC, EPS malfunction,
So I'm working on tuning my buddy's 04 SC'd s2k that's got a brand new AEM EMS 30-6052 unit but ran into a few problems.
First, we couldn't get VTEC to engage (we have the VTEC options on and off above/below rpm's set to 4100 rpm each) but after looking into it further, we realized that the ECU is not reading from the VSS. His speedometer works, so i know the VSS is connected, but it doesn't show up in AEMTuner. No matter how fast you drive it stays at "0 MPH". Now obviously this is why VTEC isn't engaging because one of the requirements is for vehicle speed to be >0mph, but why is the speed not showing up in AEMTuner even though his speedo is working?
Secondly, his tachometer does not work. In AEMTuner I can monitor/log rpm's just fine, but his actual tach is dead. Makes no sense.
And lastly, why is the EPS light on? I know it's controlled by a completely different computer, so why would swapping out ECU's cause it to malfunction?

Looks to me like the ECU feeds the tach. It also looks like the same signal feeds the EPS. It also looks like the speedometer is fed by the EPS though, I have no idea why they'd do it that way.

When Jeff Evans was tuning my 6052 a few weeks ago, he was mentioning that updating the firmware on the box would FUBAR random things. Did you try and update the firmware on the box itself yet? Did you contact AEM?

ahh...maybe that's the case. yes we did update the firmware before we used it.. and yes, we called aem. He told me to check everything I already checked and then pretty much said he didn't know but took down our information and told us he'd get back with us in an hour...that was 13 hours ago :s
Ive been holding out on going full engine management for some time. Hearing issues like this just makes me want to hold out even more. I hate dealing with random issues like this, so frustrating sometimes.

the new box, well i cant comment on , but i run the 1052u on 1.19 firmware and its been rock solid.
The 6052s are new... they're almost invariably going to have random issues. When I bought my 6052 from Jeff Evans and had the car up to him to tune, he took several extra measures to make sure that everything would work right. The problem is not with the 6052 itself but the AEM software. For some reason the process that updates the firmware on the 6052 via the computer messes things up. This can be a simple fix, AEM just needs to do it. Jeff had AEM overnight another 6052 with the newest firmware on it to him just in case he were to run into problems with mine - AEM paid the shipping.
OP, have you contacted whoever you bought the 6052 from?
