Thumbs up 4k for a turbo kit?!?!?!

I've been looking around and wondered why S2 turbo kits costs an arm & a leg. I am a former owner of a 400whp DSM & it didn't cost me that much to get 400whp. My little bro has a SC300 build going & it was 1,800 for his entire kit from club na-t. Just wondering thats all...even if you price every part out it still doesn't make sense at 4k+. Seems every piece of the kit is being marked up 200 to 300%.

Would it be a better idea to piece a kit together? Which way is the best route?

Its all the little things that really add up. Fuel system alone is close to 2K..

I've been also following that Godspeed kit & its gone from 1,900 to 3,500? Parts list hasn't changed but the price has. 2k for fuel might be it... if you go stand alone. I don't plan on going stand alone. I hope that cuts it down a little. My other brother has a Miata on stand alone @ 270whp & tuning is always a must = (headache). That thing is a garage queen.

Whats the best way to go without too much fuel work?

^ I am actually debating that. I love Verts & thats why I got the S2.

TRBOKEV : Been checking on prices & its 4k(rounded up) w/o fuel management. O_o I also priced out some of the kits piece by piece & wow 300 to 400% mark up.

bluAP1s2k: Might stay NA & if turbo, sell & buy a MK4 Supra for NA-T. Cheaper & meaner. I'll lose the vert factor though... sad.

I had a DSM as well...glad I got outta it.

I'm also curious as to why they're so much. Would supercharging be any cheaper/less complicated? Is there even a need for a stand alone with a SC?

yeah but its pretty much understood in the Supra community that those kits are crap and correct me if I'm wrong it didn't come with engine management or fuel right? Add those in and you're up around $4k again and you have a crap kit still, lol

FI on s2k = MONEY

price list <approx> for 450whp

1500 ELTM mani
1000 aem ems
450 injectors ID1000
300 fmic ebay style
400-700 piping wildcar here
100 fuel pump
1000 turbo
400 wastegate
300 bov

so
5450-5750 for ELTM <subtract like 1000-1200 for log mani>

this is all approx, shrewd shopper will beat this estimate.

not part of kit
700 clutch

soooo, cost bank to FI this car. of course if your handy with a welder, make your own piping, mani, and save money. otherwise, it is what it is.

For the record I wasn't trying to be an a$$, just acknowledging that if you want to do it right for cheaper you probably need another base to work off of.

i tried piecing a quality kit together, key word being quality, and it was more than just buying a kit. there is stuff you dont even think about that adds up in the end. now if you were piecing together a budget kit, key word being budget, then you could do it for about $3500 with fuel. a friend mine, who is on this site, priced out piecing together a budget kit and thats about what he came up with. mind you that doesnt include extras, just bare bones stuff with injectors and ems.

are the quality of the kits that other people are getting the same as lets say full race, afi, mase, or inline pro, or even ams? probably not.

you get what you pay for in the end.

a quality S/C kit is going to run around 5g's. you dont necessarily need a stand alone, if you have an ap2 you can get hondata flashpro. but stand alones offer better tuning capabilites for drivability, so keep that in mind.
