5.5bls., 7lbs., 9lbs. ? PLEASE HELP!
I'm getting my CT SC installed tomorrow and not sure what pulley to go with. I want power but I don't want to rebuilt my motor in 40K miles ( give or take). I am going with the AEM stand alnoe and hasve the 650cc injectors so that isn't a issue. I just want to know if I can still go with a larger pulley and not have to worry about my motor not lasting. So, if I do all the right tuning and mods, can I get away with a larger pulley without doing major wear on my motor? Or should I stay with the 5.5 pulley? And of course any boost will put wear on the motor with high compression but I don't want to go past that limit. Please help.
Thanks
Thanks
in your situation i'd probably lean more towards 7lbs. The power is definately there. If I were in your situation i'd go with the 9lb pulley because i know i wouldn't always be WOT all the time. good luck with your decision.

You're spending over $10000 installed to get a SC + AC + EMS + tuning anyway. The only rational choice is to get the highest boost pulley available. Period.
Besides, rebuilding a motor isn't really that big of a deal anyway. Yes, its in the $5000 range, but if once you do it, you'll be able to run even more boost, which after 2-3 years, you'll want to do anyway.
I'm sorry, but worrying about long term longevity when your investing this much cash on a depreciating asset anyway feels like being pennywise, pound foolish.
That being said, Go with the 9#! I'm getting mine installed at the end of the month, along with an ems, and a new clutch.
Depending how you drive, you'll kill the stock clutch in no time. Mine let go about 6000 miles after installing the SC (at 25000 total miles), and i've been driving stick for over 12 years. Of course, I think hitting VTEC 30-50 times a day might have had something to do with it...
Have you looked at gauges? The Defi Amber BF are excellent...

Thanks a lot for the help. All very valid points. I'm leaning towards the 7lbs. pulley because I want a little more power than the 5.5 however I want some peace of mind that my motor will still be healthy. Also, I should not have a problem going with the 9lbs. pulley later if I'm not happy with the 7 since I'm doing the injectors and AEM ecu. My only cost at that point should be the $150 9lbs. pulley and tuning time. Also, before I run high boost and chance my motor, I would like to have the cash set a side for a new motor built for boost.
And if I improve the cooling system will my motor be better off when adding boost. Improved cooling with CT aftercooler, front mount aftercooler radiator, Koyo radiator, Fal dual high flow fans and possibly a vented hood. And my shop will also tune my car being conservitive and safe.
Any other ideas or input before I have to decide tonight when I drop off my car at the shop?
Thanks,
Erik

I would throw a wide band O2 on there as well since your worried about engine life. Knowing the A/F ratio is key. I have the 7pound pulley on mine with the stock ECU and PLX wideband meter. I was able to tune it on the street for now.
I also have the 9pound pulley waiting at home but need to get some sort of engine managment and injectors.
Where are you getting your S tuned at? I am interested in getting mine tuned as well and I'm near the Sacremento area.

Also, are you pleased with the 7 psi. pilley or would you recommend the 9psi. pulley or is wear and tear on the high compression motor a issue?
Thanks,
