Default 500whp VS stock drivetrain

We all know the stock F20c can handle 500whp with ease but how about everything behind the flywheel? Will the trans, drive shaft, diff and axles be able to handle 500hp for awhile? keep in mind, im not a huge drag racer so i don't launch my cars often. Im looking to build a street/ road course beast. I would probably run boost by gear on the street but lower the boost so it makes like 350 when i want to hit up pocono or NJMP. What parts would need upgrading if any? Upgraded gears? diff? ect? Reason im asking, I have an 08 fullrace si and blew 4th gear about 3 months ago so i rebuilt it with new oem parts and now 2nd took a crap. After having the car for about 2.5 years and pulling the trans 3 times (4 times after i pull it for 2nd gear this Sunday) within a 11k mile time period, i think it's time for something new and i think an ap1 s2k is what im looking for. Plus, i kinda want a convertible

pics for reference

any help/ info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

If you're actually looking to build a track S2000 it's going to cost you a lot of money. You'll have to replace and upgrade a lot of things to make it reliable. We trailer to events because we expect something to go wrong. Even when you try and overengineer things.

If you don't love wrenching, I'd look elsewhere for your track car.

Common consenses is that alot of ppl right around 500whp have been doing pretty well as long as you dont beat the everliving shit out of it. 2nd gear is the infamous gear for people to shread especially with 500+whp. Im looking to make around 550whp and well i wont go WOT until 3rd just cause I wanna minimize my chance of destroying gears(alright maybe ill do it alittle ) But yeah the diff is basically the weakest link on the drivetrain but alot of ppl just replace just like the tranny cause people cant justify speanding 6K+ on ppg gears

So there is no other trans solution other the the ppg trans? are there any beefier gear sets for the s2k? any other stronger trans that will bolt up?

u can break the diff/trans NA. add FI and it can break even easier. some dont break the stuff, others break it a lot.

350whp turbo on a road coarse will have heat issues unless you read and duplicate the few people that have made it work well.

500whp you are asking for shit to break unless you like driving your 500whp car around like a wuss. have money set aside for used diffs/trans, cause it will eventually happen.

motor is stout, but trans/diff is not as strong as the motor.

Im not too concerned about heat issues. I got a large 15 row earls oil cooler sitting in my basement which i intended to put on the Si but never got around to it. I think with that oil cooler, a larger aluminum radiator and maybe some bigger fans, heat wont be an issue.

take this however you want, but if you think the car will be fine wiht that stuff, you should read the racing and competition forum more.

off the top of my head the cars that succeeded in running turbo on road racing cars had v mount setups, no ac, relocated fuseboxes, vented hoods, upgraded radiators, fans, etc etc etc.

trust me and read more about it before you go cooking your car on a road coarse.

Here is just my 2 cents : take everything out the engine bay and drop in a 5.7 LS1 and T56 Tranny ... if you really want build the engine while you are at it up to your 500 whp. Then have fun. what it sounds like you are wanting to build is going to cost you just as much to build as a swapped in 5.7L LS1. And a LS1 Swap would be consitent and reliable..

Superchargers are your friend. Run a stock motor at 12-15psi. 400-450whp. Water/meth injection and an upgraded heat exchanger for the After cooler and your golden, ready to track it. Run an oil cooler for shits and giggles. Stock drivtrain should get you a long way if your not drag racing. Just my .02
