Default 8.8 rear with stock driveshaft?

i sware i saw a thread where someone said they are going to use a stock s2000 driveshaft with an 8.8 but cant find it now that im trying to. doesn anyone else recall this? i wonder if this can be done and keep the 8.8 in the correct position. i was thinking this could be possible if....

a) if there is a small gap in bewteen the stock shaft and the 8.8 where some kind off spacer/ adapter could be made to bolt it together
b) if the stock shaft is the perfect length just wrong bolt pattern, the 8.8 input flange could be drill and tapped to match the s2k pattern
c) or if the shaft is very close to fitting, possible the flange for the s2k diff could be made to fit on the 8.8 somehow

of course all this would require me having the brackets which Fullblown sells to investigate further. any input or thoughts would be appreciated!

yes, i have the 8.8 diff sitting in my garage, but dont really have the extra money to buy the kit and this would cut what? maybe 800 bucks if it was a cheap, easy solution. im only just above 400 hp now and dont want to even bother with a race gas tune until i got the 8.8 in. i could get rid of my stock diff and axles for at least 600.

if $800 bucks is a concern then you should pretty much sweep the whole idea under the carpet. The entire swap would require expensive custom fabrication.

ive gone this far on a limited budget and took me two years to boost it, the 8.8 will be done. how long will it take and how much are the factors deciding when the task will be complete. i dont "sweep" projects under the carpet cause im not a baller. is the stock s2k driveshaft aluminum? if i got the dss shaft i would get the aluminum version.

maybe i can talk to LJ at fullblown see what he thinks, and how much the dss aluminum shaft is worth vs. the steel version.

finally found Wadzii i beleieve his name is, hes always in the N/A forums, this is what he had to say....

"I'll see if I can get pic tomorrow... if you take the input flange off the stock diff it has the splines that connect to the pinion gear. All I wanted was a flat flange that would bolt to the stock drive shaft. In order to get that you have to cut the "splines" off.

http://www.hondapart...s2a01_b2010.png #1 in the picture here...

Then I bored out the center so that it would be a press fit onto the ford input flange, I bolted the 2 together and welded it. Now the stock drive shaft will bolt to the ford diff.

To make the mounts I made a new brace to replace the one that bolts to the rear sub-frame.... http://www.hondapart...14s2a01_b48.png I replaced #14 in that pic.

The new piece has 2 mounts that come up and the tabs from the ford diff bolt to the mounts.

For the rear mount I have a flate plate that comes down off the back side of the stock bracket. That mount hasnt been finalized yet. I need some thicker material than what I have."

seems to be a solid idea and am still in contact with him.

he said he has about $500 in the 8.8 itself (rebuild), and is using stock replacement axles. but the 5.9 axles can be had for around $1000. $1500 for the stock driveshaft 8.8 kit or the full blown kit at around $3000. trust me id love the have the full-blown kit, but with my lower power levels (compared to the 700-800 hp beats out there now) i think this stock driveshaft setup should hold low 10's ( 500-600 hp). time will tell

I´m looking for something like this as well but not Ford parts, way to hard to find over here.
And the IP kit uses an old rear axle, 1990 and maaaaany miles.

The 350Z axle would work but too expensive when you have to buy the 3.9 gearing and maybe better LSD.
Hmmm... Don´t know... I´m open for ideas.
