Default AEM EMS Nitrous Map/Switch Questions

(Note: This is for the AEM 1052U EMS, not the older one, and not the series 2)

First and foremost, can anyone definitively say: Are the nitrous fuel and ignition maps setup on actual values (completely independent of the base map) or percentages based on the base map?

I've heard/read both, but when I looked, it definitely looked like actual values (not percentages). Maybe I was looking at the wrong thing though?

Secondly, what are the disadvatages to using a switch and the nitrous maps for another fuel such as E85?

Also, is there a way to change the boost cut with a switch? I have a TruBoost (not connected to the EMS), but its always nice knowing that if something fails the AEM will see it overboosting and potentially save the motor.

Any and all help/info on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

1. nitrous map is a modifier to the main map. you can use many different variables to allow the map to kick in. when i ran SC and meth, i had the nitrous map armed with a switch, then when i hit x boost the map would activate and kick in some timing.

2. you can setup aem to control boost, have a boost cut for overboosting, etc. id retune and have aem control boost. once its setup, its bad ass.

1. It's a multiplier.
2. I don't think there is any real disadvantages, it's not flex fuel but it will work. I've done racegas/pumpgas maps like this for years.
3. I don't know why you wouldn't use the AEM boost control. I would use a switch to change boost targets and fueling/timing with the Nitrous maps.

Are you tuning your car yourself now?

Thanks

Jay Meagher
So even though its a multiplier of the base map instead of actual values you think its accurate/precise enough to be acceptable? I know its do-able, just wasn't sure if it not using it's own actual map would inhibit the tuner's ability at all because of decreased precision....

I wasn't aware you could change boost targets with a switch. Thats the only reason I didn't/haven't. I think I'm going to wire it up to the EMS now though and ditch the TruBoost gauge.

Nah, I still have the same guy doing it... just like being informed and learning myself. I hate having people modify and work on my car and not personally knowing what they are doing and how it works.

He's been telling me about this feature and wanting me to let him do it, just wanted to do some personal research and make sure there is nothing to be lost with doing it.

Thanks for all the info Jay. Looks like I'll be wiring up a switch or two.

By the way, kind of off topic, but would you recommend an inline fuel filter if using E85? Already sent my injectors off to be cleaned once... just not sure if it would be a good idea or not so they don't keep getting clogged.

I've been using a simple switch for my boost levels the past couple of years. Only recently did I loose that feature when I used the nitro map to activate my failsafe.

A little off topic, but still relevant. If I get an N/A map dialed in and working well and want to spray my 75 shot, since the nitrous map is a multiplier off the base map, would it be safe to use for an actual nitrous tune? If not is it at least safe enough to datalog a nitrous pull with so I can go back and fix things later?

It'd be great to have a switch to flip flop between N/A and nitrous maps when each case presents itself, but I'd be so terrified spraying that first pull on AEM's nitrous map w/o any experience with it

Don't worry. Dual in the na map. Setup the nitrous map to activate when ur nitrous is activated and ur at whatever tps or load u want. Then pull a degree of timing out of the top of the map and see what it makes. 75 shot ain't much. U don't really even need to pull timing
