Since the stock ECU is completely removed for an AEM EMS installation the EMS would HAVE to control the VTEC engagement...otherwise it wouldn't work at all

Yes but why would you want to change it? Its perfect where it is everytime you shift if you tach it out its in v-tech, in the next gear. Plus I don't think you'll get anymore power out of it.

Actually, depending on your set-up, you can get a lot more out of the mid-range by lowering VTEC. NA cars gain around 10hp in the 5500-6000 range, turbos do even better. Last car I tuned VTEC was set at 4200.

Yeah but do you get 10 more out of the top, where you really need it? Or is it just plus 10 until you reach 6000 then its where it would normally be? You know what I'm tryin to say?

Once you get into actually messing with the fuel maps changing the VTEC engagement is not only beneficial but is somewhat necessary to ensure that you have a nice smooth power curve.

Changing only the VTEC engagement without any other changes is useless I believe, however when you have an EMS you aren't looking only to change the VTEC engagement. That can be done with a cheap VTEC controller.

Keep in mind that you are in the FI forum, which means that people are in here to learn about major modifications to the car, so some things that apply to fairly stock cars don't apply once you get into completely changing things like your fuel and ignition maps.

Depends on what you mean by need it. No you will not see it on top end, VTEC is happens in the mid-range, so adjusting it will effect the mid-range. If you are doing any type of launching then you'll want the hit lower so you don't have to crank the revs so damn high.
