Default AEM - EMS question with Vortech

Did intend fitting my S/C with the Vortech box but not that happy about all the firing and FPR changes etc.

If I fit an AEM ECU, does it need a boost input or does it just use the map voltage? Ive heard the MAP can read +ve boost (im using 7 psi)

Secondy, I would be using a base map from AEM as I dont trust any mappers over here Is it fairly stright forward to cut a bit of timing across the whole map? Ive not seen the AEM software so forgive me if thats a stupid question!

UK fuel at best is 98RON but you ise a different way of calculating RON, so I believe your fuel is a fair bit more det resistant than ours. Plan B would be to use octane booste.

Thanks

AEM EMS needs boost input. For that it can use the stock MAP sensor (less the 7 psi) or the GM 3 BAR map sensor. You can use a number of others, but the GM is the most common from what I have read.

On the timing changes, My guess is that it would be easy to do. I know that fuel can be changed globally by percentage. So I would assume that timing can be done likewise.

Why don't you download the software from www.aempower.com. You can play with it without the EMS and see what you can do.

I would not worry if you use Optimax.

Optimax ~ 98RON ~ 86MON

PON (AKI/US Pump Grade) = (RON+MON)/2 = 92

If I remember correctly the Base map on the AEM is for "91 Pump Gas"

I would not adjust timing by a percentage but rather pull a fixed number of degrees if you wish to be cautious (this is easy in AEMPro)

you're actually in luck...

ill be in the UK jan 10-17 tuning a hand full of cars.

if you want to get your car running correctly, i might be able to fit you in, but i know there are like 10 cars ill be tuning so ill have to check the schedule.

the aem basemaps arent the best by any means..

my website: www.masetuning.com
email: masetuning@yahoo.com

but to further answer your question....
the stock honda map sensor can read to about 11 psi of boost.

about the octane rating, it is in fact different. ive found that the gas over there isnt so great, but with your setup, you'll be just fine.

ive tuned numerous cars on the pump gas over there in the UK, sc'd and turbo cars wont have problems if its tuned correctly.

Good luck

Are there any alarm / immob issues with the AEM?

Yes, the immob is part of the stock ECU. With EMS, it no longer works.

Aw bollocks. Can it be modified? That would invalidate my insurance...

Only if you tell them. But I doubt it. The Immob is only something that may discount your policy. In my case, I get nothing for having it.

You dont live in rip off / stitch up UK though Mine must have a category 1 alarm and immob.

We have to declare everything, and they would investigate it if it was stolen / recovered. All the mods, including the ECU have to be declared.

For the S/C the hike in my premium is about
