Default AEM Infinity

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some personal thoughts / reviews of the AEM infinity system. I guess because it's still relatively new, not a lot of s2k'ers are using it or at least don't talk about it much.

I know the main advantages of it on paper vs the older systems but I'm looking for actual hands on experience. I currently have a series 1 but I'm in the process of refreshing the car (rebuilt head, new clutch, new engine harness as my old one was hacked up) and one of the thoughts that crossed my mind was upgrading to an infinity. OEM like driveability, adjustable traction control, and being able to read all of my sensors are big pluses plus maybe a couple extra HP on top of it. I'm just wondering if it's worth the cost.

They can be had for ~1400 with the harness. I like it, but not many tuners know what they are doing with it. I've had many tell me they can tune on it, but they barely scratch the surface of what that EMS is capable of.

It's capable of a lot, but the tuner has to set it up and tune it properly to make full use of it.. some tuners will just set the timing and fueling maps and call it a day, when there are so many other things to setup/tune like protection options, traction control, etc

comes down to your tuner.... PERSONALLY i love, V2, that's cause i know it so well and tune so many on it.... infinity is pretty much self tuning, but does have a TON of options.

One thing that I came to find out, even with a really reputable tuner that I traveled 6 hours for...They don't have a ton of experience so YOU are paying for their time to learn the system. It gets incredibly expensive as you are essentially paying them to learn that system..even then the results can be lack-luster

I went from a V2 to an Infinity on my personal S and have tuned both systems about equally. The infinity is MUCH faster at making corrections as compared to the V2. Tuning is much easier (although I think the software is not as user friendly), and there are many strategies that can be implemented with the system. If you spend your time with the V2 you can get a quality tune that is smooth and close to what the Infinity can do, but the infinity shines when something outside of what is supposed to happen happens. If you set up your safe guards and have all the proper sensor inputs, it can turn an event that could destroy an engine into a slight hiccup.

Being that the OP is in NJ: you'd do _very_ well to have Jeff Evans (at Evans Tuning in Mt Bethel, PA) tune your car.

Jeff has tuned my 2.4L with AEM Infinity 3 times now. He is amazing.

Jeff also strongly suggested that I shouldn't upgrade from v96.2 to v96.3 (when v96.3 came out) because, Jeff said, invariably there is something subtle in the new release that'll screw you up. I didn't listen to this advice. Upgraded my AEM Infinity firmware to v96.3, the firmware happily imported my old v96.2 config, but the car drove like shit in comparison. SO I reverted to v96.2 (and learned never to question Jeff Evans).

The last car I tuned before mine was on the v96.2 firmware. The car ran great when I was done. On my personal car, the v96.3 was out so I updated before I started my tune. Mine does NOT like to idle properly. The old AEM V2 idle better than it currently does. I too am reverting back to the old firmware.
