Default AEM Serial Gauge set up

Not sure if this is the right forum, but can anyone PM me and walk me through on how to set this thing up?

I have the AEM firmware downloaded on my lap top and the Serial to USB connector.

Anything else I need?

I tried searching on AEM's website and in the forums, but it really doesnt give a good walk through on how to set this up.

Any help would greatly be appreciated as a local shop quoted me $200 to set it up.....

Not sure what 'firmware' you've got but you need the AEM ProGauge software to set it up.

And no, it's not the easiest thing to configure. Especially with 3rd party sensors.

Do you have it installed and working yet? If so this might help

If it's not working yet there are alot of places to get hung up. You have to turn it on in teh EMS under Telemetry Wizard, have the null modem cable connected correctly and upload the base config with Pro Gauge.

Sorry, not trying to thread jack but I figured since this is a thread for the serial gauge it'd be okay to ask.

I've got my serial gauge working and it reads the 6 outputs that it should read from the box. My only question is how to get it to read PSI properly with a 4 bar map sensor. I tried loading the .cal the progauge software comes with for a 3.5 and a 5 bar map and both are way off.

As for answering the thread.
Not sure what you mean by setting it up. Are you trying to get it to read other stuff as well as the pre programmed 6 outputs? Or are you just trying to get it to connect to the laptop?

If your trying to get it to connect to laptop you do the following:
Serial gauge connects to the white comms cable that comes with the Serial gauge kit, and that white comms cable attaches to your USB adapter. You then open up progauge. and one of the buttons allows you to pick which port to connect through. You pick the port that you connected your USB adapter to, in my case its COM5 i think. and then you can click to connect the gauge, and youll prolly have to cycle the key once to power the gauge.

I did that last weekend while trying to get my gauge to properly read PSI, I might have messed up a few steps but IIRC thats how I connected my gauge to the laptop.

Forgetting the serial gauge for second, how did you calibrate the 4bar for the AEM? Did they supply a table or something?

Once you have it calibrated for the AEM then getting the display to read out correct values is fairly straight forward. It's lowest value is what you enter for 0 and it's peak value (+5V) you enter for 255.

Of course it's a tad more complicated with than that with negative values like psi but the instructions are linked above.

I'd prolly ask the shop or person you bought it from..... They should be honest enough to help you out.
