Default Aftermarket Knock Detectors

Hey guys, I'm going to be getting in quite a bit of track time this coming season. I tuned my car on a street using the AEM EMS but it's one thing to street tune and drive around at low rpm 90%...it's another thing when the car lives above 5500rpm.

So tuners, do any of you like using the aftermarket knock detectors available? If so, do you have a preference?

I think I like the Knock Link because it's visual and I can rent a dyno and spot knock instantly. Has anyone had success with any of these? What other options do you know of?

Thanks, as always!

Interesting. Can any of those be fed into an ECU for correlation?

The Knock Link (and I think MSD) have 0-5v outputs...so, yes...We could theoretically program the AEM to look at auxiliary input X and if the voltage rises above whatever turns the light red, retard timing.

Something like that. I THINK would work.

Now this looks interesting. I like it, anyone ever use it on a S2000?

I and many others went down this road many a time (SEARCH) so I will give you the very short version to get you moving forward.
The AEM has a much better options for knock detection, which are actually tunable, than any of the units you selected. If you want a light just enable an output in the EMS which will flash an LED or Buzzer which will denote knock.
If you want something really sophisticated look up closed loop knock detection which can be found in the newest Motec units. Tony at T1R was one of the first to work with one and can give you details. Otherwise you need a factory ECU from something like a Subaru or Dodge.
Oh and in your search you will probably find Ion Sensing Sprak Plugs, and Pressure sensors in each cylinder but you won't find any luck with this technology. Most aftermarket systems are about 10 years behind the OEM's.

They were all the rage back when hondata was the only option for engine management on b-series. The jackson blower guys loved it.
