Air/Fuel question
YIKES! Don't get on it. We don't won't you to have a big hole in your block or all your valves bent. I wouldn't even drive it at all and drive your beater if you got one.
I would take your car to the dyno and install the injectors there. Its not that hard. The fuel rail comes off easily and the injectors pop right out. The new injectors come with spacers because they are taller than the factory injectors so remember to use them or you will crush your new injectors when you tighten the fuel rail back on. You will also have to cut the factory injector harnesses and either crimp or solder the new harness that should come with the new injectors. It took me about 30 mins to do.
I recommend doing the injectors at the shop. I did mine at home. I didn't know how to load the basemaps to the AEM so I left the stock ecu in. On the way to the shop, the car ran like CRAP and died on me several times. I was so PISSED and thought I would have to call a tow truck. Luckily I was able to get her started again and get it to the shop.

guys, I hate to break it to you, but the loud pops usually aren't detonation. If you are shooting flame out of the tailpipe then popping, that is usually due to raw fuel in the pipe self igniting once it comes in contact with plenty of oxygen in the atmosphere.
What you really have to look out for is pinging. Get yourself a stethoscope and a very long bit of vacuum hose, listen for almost inaudible ticking under load. Don't mistake injector tick for pinging either.
I agree that I wouldn't run anything leaner than 12.0:1. The factory runs the engine at around 12.39:1 NA at WOT. Which usually means lotsa overlap, so you get alota spent fuel scavenging out into the exhaust. It also means that they are running 12:1 to cool the burn and keep the temp lower for the piston skirt and valves because our fuel outright sucks in the USA.
The big danger with running lean for you, methinks, is the increase in piston skirt temp, which could change the piston-wall clearance and potentially squeeze out oil and produce contact, or a valve may walk a little under the factory guides, and we all know how fragile the s2k valves are.
You can run lean so long as you don't detonate, but on the s2k, increases in temp could be the breakdown factor.
If you are still hell bent on running it, go get some 100 octane VP or something so that at least you won't face any detonation.
You say that you're getting popping. Misfire maybe? Did you ever gap down your plugs and go to a colder plug? Just some thoughts.

I got my injectors in and everything is now tuned and running 12.3ish across the high rpms.
I wish I could find someone that has worked on the 04 motor to get some specs and answers because i understand it is different from the pre-04. Stock my air fuel spiked at 13.5.
