Almost a nightmare. Wierd part to actaully break?
I have spent 2 years, plenty of headaches, and lots of money on building the S2K to where it is now, and had one of the closest call I have ever had with it, just going all down the drain.
I finally got the thing tuned and drivable. I took it to work after having it Dyno'ed and track tested a week prior.
On the way home, I made a small pull in 1st and 2nd gear. While in 1st and shifting to 2nd, everything went wrong.
I dod not miss a shift, just parts broke, but what broke is the wierd and scary thing.
When I shifted the car reved and stuck open at about 5500rpm, and the throttle cable went limp. I had not pull or push pressure in the gas pedal. The car remained at 5500rpm and started to climb. Not knowing what the hell, I clutched, placed her in neutral, and turned her off.....coasting to an empty lot.
I popped the hood and noticed the cable was fine, but was not attached to the TB. After looking closer, I noticed I had lost the spring and pully set-up. I had her towed home and looked even closer and found out that the bar running through the TB which held the butterfly in place with 3 screws, had broke off!
Yes. It actually broke off. The screw was there, still in place.(All three were there and tight) But the aluminum bar holding the butterfly in place was broke at the end with the spring assembly. This causeing the remaing pieces to be no longer attached to the car.
This could have went extremly south. The broken piece of that bar could have been sucked into the motor (15lbs of boost from an SC61) and destroyed what I had spent what seems like forever to build. This is a manufacture, and product error. The piece was obviously weak.
I will attempt to post pics soon as poss.
Have any of you guys heard of BDL? If so, has this been a problem? What are you guys useing for TB and forced induction? What do you guys think of BDL? What would you replace the BDL with, to make sure this does not happen again?

I have heard that a lot of people have had good luck with BDL...I didn't.. it stuck on me with more than one TB from them...Now saying that the customer service was top notch. We (me and BDL) both tried several ways to get the problem solved but couldn't.
On another note I didnt care for the spring weight. Too stiff for my liking. I tried single wind also drilling a hole in the TB wheel in a different location (great idea stena!). Still didnt feel as easy to modulate as the stock. It's probably fine for drag racing but for road racing It would be much more difficult to modulate than a stock.

The stock throttle shaft is a nice steel piece with a slot through the center - awesome Honda engineering.
If BDL uses an aluminum shaft -
At 15 psi of boost the throttle shaft sees 28.5 pounds of force during a shift (the butterfly closes but you still have boost against the butterfly/throttle shaft).
28 pounds shouldn't break an aluminum shaft, but it may be enough to repeated flex it and create a fracture.
A BOV helps, but of course a steel shaft TB would be the way to go.
