Unhappy Another Internal Wastegate question

Come someone explain to me again what the process would be to modify the Greddy Kit, in order to just go to an external wastegate? I know it probably isnt worth the money or hassle for the little HP but I still reminisce of the days, (a whole 2 days) of the sound & the way the car pulled in Vtec without the CAT. Is it as simple as welding the wastegate shut and welding on an external wastegate?

I e-mailed P-Tuning and asked them if they can do it, if I could do it all for under $1,000, and get 20WHP or so, & the sound of the External WG, and the Invidia in VTEC without a cat <------- yeahhaw, worth the $1k

Also I heard I have to modify the Log exhaust manifold itself? I dont understand this? where do External WG get welded on?

to completely revert to an external gate you need to do the following...

1)pull the turbo and have the wastegate flapper welded shut.

2)pull the manifold, and have a hole cut and a flange welded onto it for the external wastegate

3)buy a wastegate, fit it on to the manifold, and run a dump tube either into the downpipe or have it vent to the atmosphere.

4)relocate stuff that gets in the way of the new wastegate - likely the batter and fuse box.

1000 bucks for 20whp? first off switching to an external gate should be wayyyyy under a grand. 2nd, if you sell your turbo kit and drop another 1000 into your funds you could go with another setup that will net you MUCH more than 20whp....

just my .02. the greddy kit is a GREAT kit, but don't go nuts! it's meant for moderation - if you dump that much more cash into it you'd be nuts not to just go inline pro.

best of luck!

Basically TelosHedge summed it up.

For all the extra costs, just sell your greddy kit and get an IP kit.

dude.... its nice to see that you are trying to get that extra power, but you really should just go with an inlinepro kit. sounds like the greddy kit does not provide what you want. so many posts and threads inquiring about things the greddy kit isnt meant to do

I would suggest three option depending on how much power you want and how much you want to modify.
1. As I did get a GT3076 that will bolt to the greddy mani and modifiy the DP at 10 psi like 320+ on your car
2. Take it to the the next step by getting a 3mm and increasing your boost. With a better engine managment system -close to 400hp
3.Get a new manifold like inline or FUll Race and GT35 with an external wastegate better engine managment system and 3mm HG increasing boost.-400+ lots of reworking everything.

Well the car has been completed and dyno'ed at 8 psi at 303hp, at 10-12 HP per PSI at 10psi it would probably get close to 320-325. The tuner said the car held well at 8 and did not spike. I had to get a new turbo since there was some sort of problem with mine and bought it used . I wanted something a bit bigger and could be upgraded with a 3mm HG, over time I will do this. I am using a special order GT3076 it will bolt to your existing manifold and my tuner at JEimports has the specs to duplicate the 3" DP and Turbo if others want to do the same. Once I get my car back and test it for a bit I'll try and post the dyno and provide more info on upgrade. I think this is a good option if your going to want to turn up the boost with out replacing the whole kit. I picked my set up so I would not over boost on the greddy but now I should be able to go with a 3" TP and much larger single exhaust over time to get more power.

very interesting revenge...

is your custom order 3076 a one off, or are there more available? is it internally gated?

all of the intercooler pipes mate up to this turbo easily? did you use silicone to connect them to the turbo or could you bolt them up like the stock 18g?

maybe i missed it, revenge, is your new setup internally wg?? how much did the 3' dp cost and what was the wait time?

I have a 80mm TP and 80mm single exhaust, sounds like not a bad setup.

what is that turbos effeciency range in psi? where does it max out at?
