Post Anyone ever damage a motor from 7,8,9psi

I am wondering if anyone has ever damaged, blown a motor or melted the pistons from running more psi from there CT SC like the 7,8, or 9psi pulley? If so were you tuned for max power, tuned safely or not tuned at all? I keep hearing that these higher psi producing pulleys cause a lot more wear and tear on the motor, which makes sense with the stock high compression motor but I have not heard of anyone needing a motor rebuilt due from it. Any experience with this?
Thanks

Just to clarify for the thread creator, this piston damage had everything to do with the lack of tuning, and nothing to do with the boost level. I'm not saying you were or weren't implying that...

The same answer is true for you. 7,8,9 psi will not damage your motor, IF tuned properly...unfortunately that's a big if around here.

Many S2000s have been run reliably with 7 psi (stock for Vortech and upgraded Comptech). Even 9 psi have been run without problems. Also 11#s but we've never heard back from the guy on long term ramafications.
As already said, it's not just how much boost but how well it's tuned to work that way. If you run too lean at 5 psi, you can still grenade the motor.

ps. Since this is an S2000 related site and the S2000 engine is unique, topics in here should be S2000 relevent. A gazillion psi in another engine has little relevence to an S2000.

Thanks for the info. I am trying to make a last minute decision on what pulley to go with. And yes it is for my 01 S2000. I was just trying to see if anyone has had motor issues (S2000 motor) with one of the above listed pulley upgrades before I make my decision. Thanks

11 psi here, running fine still. I run the car pretty damn hard too.

Even with proper tuning (AEM):

Bent

Cracked

@ 9lbs

Just poor luck.

^ Billman, our resident S2000 mechanic, has indicated that this can happen in NA engines, so it's not exclusive to a high boost engine.
