yea probably mustang or dyno dynamics. Very good number for stock exhaust.

 

i have run my ap2 to 9k on the dyno. With the ap1 cam and subsequent return of the ap2 cam, it still lost power up top (might be more a result of my setup than the efficiency of the motor). I wouldnt even worry about the valves or retainers, but more the side loading of the pistons at that speed! I'm sure it will stay together, but for me at least, it wasn't worth the added worry!

Bingo. Side loading on the pistons and especially the rods are what you need to be concerned about.

Save the wear and tear on your bottom end and run a smaller pulley and redline it at 8500.

Like said above, revving the Ap2 to 9K rpm is not a matter of it having upgraded valve springs. Due to the extra Stroke of the engine ( where the Ap2 makes .2 more liters) they decreased the rpms due to piston speed. Given that inline pro has many different options for crankshafts 9K rpm seems to be ok on a AP2 crank. Actually making power @ 9000 prm is a different story. Other factory come into play. So yes you are safe to rev to 9000rpm as long as it is worth doing so.

 

8600 is the highest i would rev the 2.2 safely.

 

As others have said, it's not the valve train that you need to worry about. Same valve train as the AP1.
