Cool Attn: Sideways and other S/C guru's..advice needed

I have done the research reading through about 30 pages of super helpful posts from everyone in this community and the debates between Vortech/Comptech. Everything is helpful so far but I wanted to get a blueprint of what I'm looking at labor/money wise to attain my goal.

My original plans for my s2000 was just to build a fun daily driver with a nice ICE setup but one thing led to another and now my g/f has given me permission to go all out to reach the magical 400hp+ mark.

My plans are simple - I have the electrical know how and my buddy is a mechanical genius in installing and tuning Japanese cars so together we have the resources to make this happen.

I'm 90% sure I'm going to run a Comptech blower and their aftercooler kit.

The car is a 2005 Rio S2000 and is essentially stock minus the Comptech exhaust. Rims and suspension are done so now just goin to concentrate on the motor area.

Sideways, I never met you but have heard great things from many people about you so hoping you can give me some insight. I'm not as hardcore as you so don't want 500hp...hahaha

Can you tell me what you would recommend based on your experiences for me to reach my goal? I'm thinking I will need some sort of engine management (external) and probably bigger injectors but what else?

Header, pipes, bigger radiator?

Any advice appreciated....I'm lucky I only live about 2 hours from Comptech as well

regards
rick

from what i've read..the vortech has more potential. i think you should jus sell the s/c to me and get that instead. from that money you can pretty much get a vortech w/AC too

Another vote for the Vortech. I got 320 whp & 199 tq with the stock kit, header & exhaust.

Add injectors, smaller pulley & (eManage) management... 400 whp is very possible.

What smog testing will be required for your car?

I'm taking a sidestep in this same process, but headed in the same direction. (Head work first)

BUMP, I'm in the same boat also.. The car is done except for the engine work... I was gonna go comptech, but after reading I may go vortech... What is the best 4-1 header out there? What size exhaust piping is best??? What type of plugs do you need to run?

Thanks for the feedback - sounds like Vortech is the choice here....hmmmm

You guys that are getting 348+ hp on just the Vortech blower and exhaust is awesome. Comptech I don't think can reach that kind of power level but I remember reading that Vortech customer service is almost ZERO and that is a big minus in my book.

I know many of you modded S2k's are in CALI so how do you guys pass smog each year?

Also it seems more power is generated from the AP1 cars - what about the AP2 cars....anyone running Vortech? Comptech?

kayvan_pour : We met that night at thurs. Starbucks - we gotta talk more...haha

Best headers (based on my other post) most guys are saying:

1) J-'s racing
2) TODA (super lightweight and quality piece)
3) Comptech 4-1 header (better for FI)
4) MUGEN
5) RICK's header

Is the test pipe a critical piece for you guys? I never planned on removing that but I know on turbo cars the straight pipe makes a big difference (had one on my 450hp 97 Eclipse back in the day....)
