Default Bearings for rebuild

Several owners have asked about what bearings I used in rebuilding my Vortech.

The low speed side was originally a 6205-C3, an ABEC-1 rated buck a set skate board wheel bearings.

The max rating was 15,000 rpm and I was spinning my input over 17,000 rpm.

I upgraded to a couple of 6205P5 by FAG, manufactured in Germany.

An ABEC-5 rated bearing with slightly increased load carrying ability and a max input shaft speed of 25,000.

This upgrade was less than $100.

On the high speed side I sourced a matched set of ABEC-9 SKF bearings made in Italy. 7003 DC/P4A DGA

I got these on ebay. They run $420+ a set retail but can be had for less. I avoid Chinese bearings.

For seals, 928motorsports has a good set for $67 shipped.

Have you considered ceramic bearings? I run these in 2 cycle kart engines and axle bearings and seen increases in RPM's & mph and no failures. Our engines typically run 15,000 rpms. In a SC application with high rpm's & heat, I would think ceramic bearings would be the way to go. I did a lot of research on this in the past for karting & it makes sense.

Ceramic bearings are the best. I'm looking into putting them in my fishing reels.......$$$ No rust. I fish for tuna.
