Default Best Bov for S/C ?

HI !

i have a novi 1000 with front mounted intercooler, it looks nice and i'm making 10 PSI and its great
the only problem is that i'm having compressor surge because the bov i have on there a knock off HKS and it's too small to move all the air the S/C is making !

and i've been searching and asking all over for the past 3 weeks, what is the best bov to work with my set up ?

something that's big enough to move all the air ?

anyone is running a front mounted setup with a S/C and have any advice ??

thanks a lot !!

I would just go to the forced induction subforum and look at what people are running. I would think any name brand BoV would be fine. I did hear some guys saying that getting a recirculating type would be better for a S/C setup.

Turbosmart one seems to be working well for me.

Tial with their sc specific spring works as well as the godzilla. The forge diverter valve is another one I know of proven to work.

A member added another hks bov and the pair worked, so that might be an option for you.

I'm using the supplied Bosch valve from my comptech kit, but I've heard of a performance increase by flipping it and letting it vent to the atmosphere. Any truth to this?

The surge you are talking about is not becuase the BOV is too small, its becuase its not opening at a low enough psi. You may get flutter at decel or highway driving?? You need a valve that will stay open under that condition not open/close (flutter) really fast.
Tial with supercharger spring is the only one that works correctly dumping at 2psi. I know a lot of people use godzilla but the problem is that doesnt dump until 6psi so partial throttle its fully closed and boost is back feeding. You may notice air filter oil in the air box. I did with HKS SSQV. went to tial and it does work. My HKS would flutter becuase it also opened at 6-8 so decel would sound like a turkey. The tial works as it should to get rid of the boost but is really lound and I hate the sound of normal driving and partial throttle becuase all you here is psssssssssss, it sounds like my car is broken and leaking. But, thats becuase its working correctly. Im considering changing to the q-r that works like the bypass valve and sends it back into the intake. The q-r is the same unit just has a port for venting back vs dumping out but dumping 12psi back into the intake may still push filter oil out of the filter but at least you know its not surge from the blower.
So from what I learned from Jeff Evans was:
If you car about your car use tial
If you care about sound use whatever the hell you want but you may see issues due to backfeeding boost

As far as front mount, I had a ultimate racing FMIC, went to aftercooler with front mount heat exchanger for SOS and I gained about 55hp. Yea, so dont do it is what Im trying to say. Way too much boost loss. Pick up an aftercooler and a front mount exchanger. Looks the same up front anyhow.

The Tial Q vents to atmosphere. The other vents to a return port.

I've just bought one of these today for my Comptech Novi 1000 kit.

Tial Q50 with green (-2.00) spring.

I removed the mounting plate, bored the exhaust port on the flange to 38mm to match the hole in the AC, then welded the supplied 50mm core they provided with the BOV to the flange.

You want this one:
