Default Best Ring/Pinion and LSD for 8.8 Diff?

Hey guys,

I just picked up a Thunderbird 8.8 diff and I'm looking to build it and get it ready for my next s2000. From the reading ive been doing it seems everyone is really liking the 3.90 ring/pinion setup, but what LSD is everyone using? Id like something streetable (one that dosent whine during driving or bark around every corner), but can handle 700-800 whp.

Please point me in the right direction with your suggestions on gears and LSD options!

Thanks so much for the help!

you cant go wrong with richmond gears. As far as the the posi goes, the stock one is fairly strong. we have been single digits (low 9's in a heavy mustang) on a stock posi.

You need the 28 spline not the 31 if you're using the full blown kit. I went with the trac-loc LsD which all of the mustang cobras use without any issues. It's more streetable than using an Eaton diff but if its strictly a drag car then use it. If you go with trak-loc or true trac etc, you can do a simple mod of adding in another clutch disc to the entire clutch pack to make it hold more power. Read the mustang forums. I went with Motive 3.90's. there shouldn't be any gear noise if set up properly.

Ford racing is the best but they don't make the 3.90. I say if you're less than 600hp stay with 4.10s and above go 3.90 richmond/motive or 3.73 Ford Racing.
