I had two leaks between the supercharger and the aftercooler. Both required some grinding and welding. My after cooler had no bead on the intake side and was tapered.

The particular t-bolt clamps I was using were poorly designed.

All four were disfunctional (actually causing leaks) and have been replaced.

The After cooler to blow off valve flange was installed without filling the prior threaded mounting holes.

The fabricator welded the flange all around the inside and this allows the threaded hole to vent to the outside.

I'll need to pull the unit again and see if I can plug the threaded hole from the inside.

Epoxy or J.B.Weld may be required as there is no way to access the hole with a welder.

Other than the small hole described above the intake is tight.

I tested it to 29 psi with great trepidation.

If you are boosted and not checking for leaks you may be missing some power.

I was.

Is this thing really worth it? can you just manually check it yourself and save the money? I want to get it b/c it can be a common problem but is it reallllyyy worth it?

hey sideways, do you think you can post a photo or two which visually shows how to use it?

Sorry, I didn't take any pictures of the boost leak detector in use. The first site cited above has a how to.

Use safety precautions. Double check all connections including the leak checker mounted to the intake. If it were to blow off it could injure you.

Basically you attach it to the intake of the supercharger/turbocharger and add air. There is no bead on the intake so make it tight. Mine would hold boost for about a minute with the pressure slowly going down. Quite a bit longer time than the "how to" stated 5 seconds. The air escapes into a cylinder and bleeds past the rings.

i made my own but here is a little trick for you guys. take a cigar take a puff pull the hose that goes to your regulator and blow the smoke into the hose. do this a few times. now when you do the test you will see exactly were the leak is because the smoke will come out letting you see exactly where the leak is. i been doing this for years works great just please don't start a bad habit. lol

I highly recommend everyone boost leak their setup prior to their tune. I was very surprised how many leaks I had even while it was still making decent power.
