Default Boost question regarding wideband and emu

Im planning on boosting my car soon and have already put together some parts such as the Greddy Ultimate ( I no a standalone would be better but in my area its a hassle to get passed smog with a standalone ) and some other things such as injectors. I will not be tuning it myself and itll be going to a reputable tuner. My question is do I have to purchase a wideband during the tuning process or will that be supplied ( I havent talked to my tuner yet so I don't know )My 2nd question is should I purchase a wideband after the install process anyways? Or is it just an item thats good to have rather than a requirement. I was thinking of purchasing a narrowband or a wideband later down the road if needed.

I think a wideband is a necessity, but others may disagree. DO NOT buy a narrowband. Complete waste of money and tells you nothing.

^ I see you have the greddy kit. Are you using emu? If so what wideband are you running?

Your going to need a greddy boost sensor to boost over 10 psi mate.

Ditched the EMU a while ago in favor of an AEM. Still have the EMU, though. I switch back to it every 2 years to pass emissions. I use PLX widebands on both my cars.

If you're going to a reputable tuner, and really ANY tuner, they will hook your car up to a wideband to monitor your AFRs while they tune your car. You do not need to supply one. To your second question, I would purchase a wideband and gauge if I were you. It is nice to be able to monitor your AFRs yourself by just glancing at your wideband while driving or idling. If you do this, you should install it before you get tuned so that you can check the readings against what the tuner's readings are.

Do yourself a favor and make sure your tuner gets you running right in both closed and open loop (wide open throttle, partial throttle, and idle). You're looking for around 14.7 at idle, and mid-11s at WOT. These are things I wish I had checked before I got my tune. Turns out my WOT and part throttle are good, but my idle is too rich (mid-13s) and I want to get retuned. If I had checked these things while he was tuning me, I could have brought them up on the spot. Learn from my mistake.
