Default break into the 12s

Hey im new to the s2000 world. I own a 03 tiburon with a few mods but i am selling and getting a S...I was just wondering how much it would cost to get an S into the 12s...i really have no preference as to sc or turbo...i have seen a few kits on here but i dont know which is better or which is the best...

Thanks alot

Kyle

I would think turbo will get it done, but at a very steep cost. I can't even begin to guess how much though. You'll also have to reinforce the rear end. This car is not made for drag racin, but anything can be done with deep pockets.

I mean this in the best possible way, so plesae dont translate this post the wrong way.
The S2 is quite a step up from a Tiburon, even a modded one. I would highly recommend after you do sell the Tiberon & buy the S2 drive it for a while and get to know the car before you try to make it a 12 second car.
In regards to your question, I've heard that the Comptech SC with a 9psi Pulley & the right Fuel Management can put you into the high 12's. If you want to go lower, you'll probably need to look into a Turbo. I would also recommend doing some differential upgrades as it doesn't respond very well to drag-strip time.

Yeah I understand it is a step up. But there are a few kits out for the tib that will push it into the 12s...what do the s2000 run stock im guessing like a 14.4 or lower...i made a 14.6 pass with my tiburon

If there are kits to run the tib into the 12's you should do that. I'm willing to bet it's a lot cheaper.

I think what is being said here is that when you get your car, you may find the much improved handling and performance of the stock S2k will keep you happy instead of looking for faster numbers, in which case there are so many other cars better suited.

BTW, after looking at costs for a while myself, a turbo setup to get you into the 12's would cost close to 10k after upgrading the parts needed and extensive tuning.

It all depends on whether or not you can drive. Stock they CAN run 13.7 and with $4,000 you can buy a used comptech supercharger and run high 12's without any other mods, again, IF you can drive. The S2000 is a very hard car to learn how to dragrace so its gonna take a while.

You don't need a $10,000 turbo kit or a 9lb pulley.

I agree that the driver has a ton to do with it.

That said, Nick, have you busted an axle at the track? Weren't you using Hoosiers? You were running a 7lbs pulley, too. VAFC?

Having an S run consistent 12's is not as simple as throwing on a sc or turbo and forgetting about it. You want to run 12's? Maybe spraying nitrous might be the cheapest route to go, but not sure for how long you can do that.

I did break an axle and it was on street tires. I launched WWAAAYYY wrong, and after I learned to launch at 2,500rpms I ran consistent 12.7-12.8 at 111-112 all on 6.6 psi and the ACT/Comptech clutch setup and cutting CONSISTANT 2.0 60' times. Before that, on 4psi and stock everything I managed to squeeze a 12.96 pass at 109 but only one time. 4psi!!!!!!

So it is VERY possible to break 12's with little FI work to the S and I have done it. The drag radials are sitting in my garage and the pulley just came in. I'm going outside and putting this shit on and then getting everything tuned with the EMS and will be shooting for low 12's and MAYBE, just maybe i get somehow get into the 11's without braking anything.

i live in chandler skibum...and silver s2k wanna shoot me a om with your full setup...i know the track is all about racing...i have learned to drive my car very well i have heard from many people that it is very hard to get the full potential out of the s2000s because they are so hard to launch and drive. I still love the car though!
