Default To buy or not to Buy?

Hey Guys and Gals,

Thanks in advance for the help. I am considering buying used CT supercharger details are below:

Comptech Supercharger with Aftercooler complete with tech2 front mount radiator upgrade ($450 savings) and Greddy Type S BOV with custom flange ($210 savings). This is the stock pulley set up for an AP2 (MY04-MY05) S2000.

This kit has 12k on the blower and I am the original owner. It has never seen the track or Auto-x. It has been meticulously maintenanced, cleaned and runs Mobil one synthetic oil. I will not require your stock pulley for this transaction. I will ship you everything that comes with the kit PLUS $50+ of free re-inforced T-clamps and longer transition hose for a cleaner install.

This is the newer kit with upgrades from Comptech such as the bushing for the blower bracket to avoid cracking, beveled intake elbow to avoid hitting the fan shrowd and beveled Aftercooler to support a STB.

With T-clamps and longer transition hose
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wanted everything except for the FMR. ( read that FMR is not an improvement at all). thanks xviper. (I am a noob at this so excuse my stupid questions ).

Here are my questions.

What would you pay for this installed?
How long is the SC going to last me? ( with the right maintance of course)
Does the BOV actually help? or will it actually make more problems?
Should I just fork over the extra cash and buy new?

Thanks again..... Im still in the learning process.

Having done such an install myself, I'm not really sure how much it's worth to you to pay someone to do this for you. A Comptech is much easier to install than my Vortech was. I would think that it would take someone experienced to do this whole thing for you in around 10 hours or less, so 10 hours of labour at X.XX $$/hr.

If you see maintenance and you're not going to be driving the car "like you stole it" all the time, this sort of mod should give you many, many years of reliable service. Mine is approaching 3 years without so much as a hiccup. I believe there are Comptech S2000s out there on originally owned MY2000 cars today (so 4 to 5 years).

A BOV doesn't really "help". It merely replaces Comptech's "bypass valve" (relief valve if you will). People put these on so they can get a louder audible indication that they have a supercharger under the hood.

The only thing that I've seen when people buy used kits is that there seems to always be parts missing. Even a little, cheap part can present an overwhelming obstacle and a PITA when you are trying to get the thing up and running. You should do a complete inventory of all parts in the used kit so you know what you are up against. You don't want to find yourself in a position where you'll be willing to "sell your kingdom for a 2 buck part". Go to the Comptech site and download the instruction manual. That will give you an itemized view of all the parts you should be getting.

If I am not mistaken, this is SIIK2NR's kit. Why don't you take him up on his offer and have him install it for you? Take the drive up from Temple City to San Diego and meet up with the SD folks. Tim is the community organizer there and is a standup guy.

Just a little input. The BRP supercharge is almost completed, you should also look into that.

yes but the BRP kit is not CARB certified. Also, the kit hasnt been out long enough to prove its reliability. Look into that.
