Is buying a boosted S2K a bad idea?
I am in search of a dream car, I have considering everything from M3's, Corvettes, STi's and EVO's. I value performance over fit and finish but fit and finish is still important. I have driven a stock S2k pretty hard and I really loved it, but the car isn't packing enough of a wallop to justify the lack of practicality so I was wondering if buying a boosted S2K would be a bad idea? I have some questions...
-Maintenance/Reliability:
Providing a tuning shop checks out the car it is turns out to be done very well how much maintenance and what would it consist of? I would be looking for a turbo or s/c s2000 with the best horsepower/safe/conservative ratio.
What should I expect to replace or repair and how often at a safe power level?
Will the car run as if it were a factory f/i car or are these things finicky requiring constant tweaking and adjusting?
What kind of power can this car handle and for how long with an F/I set up?
Power delivery? Do these cars just become tail happy hard to put down power with the light weight, high compression motor and rwd?

Not trying to be a jerk at all, but you have a lot of reading to do. All the questions you asked can be answered but a lot of it has to do with you and what you want from the car. You will find people on this board that have a LOT of miles on their turbo or supercharged S2000 and have had almost no issues. Others can't seem to keep their car on the road. My suggestion would be to ride in a few boosted cars to get a feel for what HP you want to target. Most of us drive these cars not because of their high HP potential but because of the experience (drivability of the car). We boost the car to get the power where we want but you won't be a Z06 killer.
I'm boosted, Rotrex supercharger just unber 400WHP, and the internals are completely stock. The only thing replaced was the clutch and pressure plate. Drives stock (with double the power) and no problems thus far. 400WHP is a safe number on stock internals and stock rear end as long as you don't launch at high RPM on slicks.
Hope this helps,
Chris
P.S. if you're ever in Houston and want a ride just give me a shout.

Forgot to mention, if you want factory reliability on a bosted S2000 I can recommend the Kraftwerks supercharger (that's what I have). Buy an 2006 or 2007, throw the Kraftwerks on it and enjoy.

Well what is it that is keeping the others from having a reliable car? Not conservative enough? Cheaply done? Maybe S/C is what I want and not T/C... I will take the reliability and drivability over sheer power. I don't need to have a zO6 killer but I do need to have something that is a good amount quicker to keep my interest up. If you can't have torque you have to have something.

I only have 400hp and ive walked a z06...not too hard. They weigh a ton!
2002 ZO6 Curb Weight:
3115 lbs 405hp rated 400ft lbs
s2000 Curb Weight:
2809 lbs... 240hp rated 153ft lbs
Even if you were making 400whp, the ZO6 isn't far off and makes over 100 ft lbs more torque.
